Who were the 5 greatest footballers of all time?
Posted by: Chillkram on 05 April 2006
I didn't really get to see much of Pele, so I will have to omit him from my list. I would have to say:
1. Diego Maradona.
2. Johann Cruyff.
3. George Best.
4. Michel Platini.
5. Dennis Bergkamp
6. Robbie Savage
......Ok, the last one's me having a laugh; I'd actually put him about 25th!
Anyway, it's just an opinion. And probably a contentious one. Who do the forum members consider their 5 greatest players.

Don't anyone dare tell jayd the thread is about "soccer".
How can the Americans call that game football when the game is played almost entirely with the hands?
Anyway to get back on track-
In no order
John Charles
Diego Maradona
Johan Cruyff
Franz Beckenbauer
Bobby Moore

Steve O

You must be psychic!
That's precisely why Pele was the difficult choice

You're absolutely right, but the fact that Pele at least got to play in the World Cup "proper" swung it in his favour...... and apparently he did quite well.
A less blinkered take would be:-
1. Pele
2. Best
3. Cruyff
4. Ronaldinho
5. Zidane
It's difficult though - I don't rate Maradona at all, but I'd have like to include Duncan Edwards and Marco Van Basten!
In three months time hopefully I could include Rooney.

Ah Arnold Mühren. Playing that final cross, to hard and to high, to Marco van Basten scoring that magnificent volley against Russia in the '88 final of the European Championships.

One of the best goals I've ever seen. Marco van Basten another great player always seemed to create time and space where others couldn't find it. Shame he had to quit playing so early in his career, I'd have liked to have seen a lot more of him. (Though not against England, as he we had no answer to him)
BTW - I forgot Jimmy Greaves in my list.

Why don't goal keepers ever make these lists? Most important player in any team. Great teams start at the back, blah, blah, blah...

My list has Paul Cooper in goal he'd be great for penalty shoot outs - close call between him and Richard Wright before he lost his way at Woolwich Arsenal
So who is your favourite ref then?
Posted on: 08 April 2006 by musfed
That bald Italian ref, Collina?
