Nait2 + CDX2?
Posted by: PflasterMan on 28 September 2003
Hi,
I'm thinking of changing from CD5/FC2 to CDX2.Current amplification is Nait2.
Any comments if this will be a balanced system, or should I first change to an pre/pow-combo?
Speakers are Intro2.
Thanks for your advices.

I would expect that to be an excellent system.
The best way you to decide whether you would prefer improved amplification is to take your Nait to your dealer and compare the two options.

No it won't be a "balanced" system, and that's what's so good about the combination you propose.
After that, the next upgrade should be an XPS2 - you'll then be pushing even more music through your Nait and Intros.

It'll be a terrific system!
Ok, it's unbalanced (according to price) but it'll be one hell of a musical setup.
I recently used a Nait-2 & CDX too, and it's great combo. Imho the Nait-2 sonically reaches aboout 80% of the more expensive pre-power combo's at about 20% of the cost.
Especially with Intro's I think it will be fine.

I can't speak directly to CDX2/XPS2 but a CDX/XPS running into a Nait 1 driving Kans or IBLs was clearly NOT wasted. The musical upgrade provided by the XPS was obvious. You can argue about VFM, but I think Andrew has it exactly right.

Agreed,
I had a CD3, Nait 2, Rega Jura and substituted a CDSII for an evening and it was mesmerizing. Not a crazy loud system, not super controlled, just completely believable.

And it should be in the room and with the kind of music that you listen to.
The ultimate answer will depend on various factors such as what kind of music you listen to, how loud you like to listen, what kind of speakers you are driving, what your sonic and aesthetic priorities are... and how much money you ultimately have to spend.
I would think that you have almost unlimited options. Yes, a CDX would sound awesome through your nait. But you knew that already, didn't you? Other, more balanced options that might make it to your audition list would include 112/150 202/200 and 82/180. Each of these has various attributes to recommend it.
112/150 = vary well balanced and could be powered with your flatcap 2. Many of the strengths of the new technology.
202/200 = even better, and a long term pair of building blocks that will ultimately allow even more of the sonic gifts of a CDX/CDX2 to shine through.
82/180 = since second hand, will provide excellent vfm and a high level of performance. You may be surprised at how good your cd5/fc2 sounds!
Truly, you have wide ranging options but ultimately you really should audition some options in your house with your music before you decide. Got any friends who could bring some of their equipment over for a fun evening? That would be a good way to hear some gear, too.
