Help needed -Naim n-vi set up

Posted by: ohlilymylove on 25 February 2010

Can anyone talk me through setting up my TV via the N-vi so I can get it through the speakers.

Not being particularly technical, I find the n-vi instruction manual really unhelpful and though far from stupid!! (ok.. so that's my opinion) I am at a loss to work it out.

The Naim was originally set up/configured for me a couple of years ago. I have two of the analogue channels configured for my Cable and Squeezebox, so my TV cable etc was via my speakers.

However the cable box was recently replaced (faulty) and the new cable box does not have phono ports so I lost the sound via my speakers.

I have now connected the phono cables directly to the TV instead of the cable box, but I do not know how to configure the last analogue channel to recognise the TV.

With no success with the book, I decided to check the existing setups for cable or squeezebox, whatever, so that perhaps I could work out how to configure TV, but I can’t even seem to get to any menu of any relevance!! And have wasted so much time I am now pretty desparate.

I may not be very technical, but I really appreciate good sounds and find the quality of the TV (and radio) on its own, horrendous and I just can’t enjoy it any more.

Also, I should ask.. does anyone know if this will give me what I had before?

I've moved this query to the appropriate forum room.

I guess the first question is to do with the cable box; Are you sure there is no separate audio output available? You say there are no analog RCA sockets, but is there a digital output either on a single Coax RCA or via Toslink Optical connector? If you have the latter, then you're in luck! You can use these to input into the n-Vi and have a potentially much better sound as well.

If not, what connectors are there on the box?

Now, if you have connected the TV RCA output into the same input as you had the cable box then you should at least have TV sound through the n-Vi. This of course assumes you have not changed any settings on the n-Vi. ALso, it assumes that the RCA output on your TV is working. Perhaps it needs to be switched on in the TV's setup menu?

Let us know...
