Allow Me To Introduce Myself...

Posted by: Reid on 10 February 2008

Hi!

I'm Reid, from Ashford in Kent. some of you from the area may well know me as the young guy from Ashford's Naim dealer (can I say which without getting banned? oh well, there's only one!), but I'm also not too far away from being a Naim owner too! We've got a second hand Nait/CD3 at the store which soon enough will be mine, oh yes! I'm thinking of pairing them up with a pair of the new DB1is, having heard them I can't think of a better matched little bookshelf on the market.

So I hear that some of you are descending on Ashford in the near future, I look forwards to meeting those of you who haven't already graced our little shop, let me just say that we might have a few surprises in store!

So, as an introductory question, have any of you been to the new East London Rough Trade yet? If not, its well worth a visit. First time I've ever seen a CD5i used as a listening post!

Hi Munch,

Boss man has asked me to take the reins with the meet-up, I hope he's prepared for what I have in store! I'll be keeping a few little surprises very close to my chest until the day, but we'll make sure its an experience that'll be hard to forget!

I'm having second thoughts about getting the used CD/Nait 3 now, I'm considering some new 5i bits instead!

Hey man, its hard work when your lunch hour hifi is a 555/552/500/OB1i system! Makes listening to music at home with any credibility very difficult ...

Hi Reid

To answer your last question, yes I've been a big fan of Rough Trade Shops since the 1980's. I especially like Rough Trade East though. Very chilled place for hanging out with friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and good stock. I find their recommendations tend to be often close to my tastes to the extent that I'm now a member of The Album Club as well. Also the in-stores are a treat.

Incidentally the use of quality hi-fi is not new at Rough Trade. The Covent Garden shop when it first opened had a Linn Axis turntable although this was later replaced by more DJ-friendly decks! Actually I often wince slightly seeing the treatment some of the CD5i's get at RTE as well - I hope they have an understanding warranty agreement with someone!

Problem is, I don't ever stop listening...

I have an iPod Touch for on the move, all the toys work has to offer and a P3 sitting at home for my downtime...

I'm not as bad now as when I worked for a music magazine, back then we used to actively seek out Wetherspoons pubs knowing that it would be the only sanctuary from music we'd find in London!

Thats the one reason I couldn't work there. Imagine spending all day shouting "YOU HAVE TO PUT THE PUCK ON THE CD!!!" At least in my job I work the dials...
