Please, give me some recommendations....

I do not know yet as I am awaiting for my newly ordered LP12 to arrive !!!!!!!!! (and I can't wait)
I am planning to place it on top of a glass shelf which is part of my quadraspire rack. My dealer who will be doing the installation (who happens to be one of the foremost LP12 setup gurus here in the states) has no problem with it sitting on this.
Regards
Gregg

Hi Gram , I've used the following :
mana reference table - marks 10/10
fraim - marks 8 / 10
quadraspire reference - 6/10
In a moment of madness , I sold my ref table and have regretted it since. They can occasionally be found 2nd hand. Hope this helps .

I see you're on the telly next week.
At the risk of throwing a spanner in the analogue works, myself and others have discovered that an LP12 in close proximity to the rest of Naim kit (on non-ferrous supports) appears to degrade the sound quality.
We're assuming that it's the steel chassis that causes the effect.
Might sound a bit bizarre; but if your Linn is close to the rest of the kit, try moving it away.
I run my LP12 as far away from the rest of the kit (on Fraim) as the interconnects (via the Stageline) will allow.
Bloody annoying but true.

On a wall shelf. In my case Quadraspire. LP12 is very prone to footfall if you don't have solid floor.

Thank you, how does a ikea table work?
Posted on: 01 March 2004 by Top Cat
On a low QS Ref table (8/10)
Owned previously:
Ikea shelf: 3/10
Target shelf: 4.5/10
Mana Phase 8 wallshelf: 8.5/10
QS Ref wallshelf: 8.5/10
Fraim would be a notional 10 based upon my experiences. Mana was great in a hifi way, QS Ref is more musical - Phase 8 Mana and the QS Ref are roughly equal in enjoyment terms.

I've never heard an LP12 on top of a stand full of equipment sounding anywhere near as good as it should. Light rigid tables or wall shelves are usually best - it will depend on your room.
I recommend starting off with something relatively inexpensive, simply because it is likely to give you a taste of everything an LP12 does.

Top Cat - What is a 'phase 8 wall shelf' please? Sounds like you would need a ladder to access the turntable!

Mine's on the default Mana Wallshelf. In my future there is a Fraim - after kid(s) are older.

quote:It's a Mana wallshelf with seven levels of Mana placed on it to 'reference' it - in my case a mixture of soundframes and soundbases. You start it low (mine started just about the skirting board) so that you can add more levels without it getting out of hand. It then looks similar to a rack, but wall mounted. Good sounding, but I believe Fraim is better. Now if I could only afford Fraim...

The "Lack" table works surprisingly well, at very little cost but to be truthfull is bettered by dedicated support tables. I went from a Lack to Audiotech and it was a big improvement.
At least one of the moderators here has their LP12 on Fraim.

I use Mana Reference Table, the floor is solid.
The result - incredible music from LP12.
Tried Base Rack before with Base plates or glass - didn't stand anywhere near the Mana.

Just like Greeny, my LP12 is on a wall mounted Quadraspire shelf.
Sounds damn good to me :-)
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

tonite, i am installing my LP12 atop a mana 2 tier table that i have just bought 2nd hand. next week, a soundstage will be delivered from mana and i put the whole thing atop that.
i am just a little nervous about the mana set-up, but i will dig up some setup instructions i have seen here and there...
enjoy
ken
ps: oh, i'll let you know how my lp12 sounds initially on the basic table and then with the soundstage -- should be an interesting upgrade to assess. my audiotech is now in the loft, but will not hesitate to bring it down again if this doesnt work for me...

Ken -- save yourself an enormous amount of hassle and get a Mana spirit level at the same time. You won't regret it!
Best;

Neil, I did have a Fraim lined up but sadly I couldn't get it past the wife. It's on the cards as a future possibility, but for now all my funds will be channeled into our new extension/kitchen and I'll be sticking with the QS Ref. FWIW, system is sounding great - now I need to find some mint early press Beatles vinyl and I'll be a happy man...

Hi Ken,
I was wondering, given your comments in the past, and what has worked well for you in the past and what has not - how big is your room? Reading into your comments a bit more and what has worked for you I suspect very-small-room-itis. I might be totally wrong, I am guessing since I don't know you and we haven't met, but in my very limited experience extreme near field (or very small room) listening requires a certain approach to system building and components. Since you are quite close the key is to get the soudn to integrate fully and have seamless top to bottom perspectives.
I'm just speculating, but I do feel a lot of people listen in the nearfield (I call less than 8 or less away nearfield) which can cause issues that are mainly recording and room related.
regards
Dev -- who listens in a large room about 13ft away from his speakers which has its own issues, but when you get right can be amazing.
