Charles S. King just passed away. A very iconic figure, he designed the Range Rover. 85 years old, fit as a fiddle, killed while riding his bike. Wonder what kind of stereo he listened to? May peace be with him.

He didn't like the idea of the Range Rover as a status symbol!
Is that true about Thin[1] being a design 'expert" for Range Rover? Please tell me you were joking.

Just to show that it is a status symbol rather than intended to be used as a genuine off-roader ... I saw one with low profile tyres yesterday.
Didn't know the designer, but sorry he's gone.

MilesSmiles and I went on a Land Rover day a few years ago now in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney. These cars went places no others could go. It was a great experience. Great to see all the guys with their flashy new Range Rovers scared getting the mud all over them.
Here is Oliver in his Land Rover
Look carefully - you can see Oliver is wearing his Naim T shirt

A great day out - made me a believer, if they just weren't that bloody expensive here in the UK.
BTW, I really did not know that a car could do what we did that day.

I assume this is the Spen King that designed the award winning cylinder head for the Dolomite Sprint. When was an engine last put down to one man?
RIP Spen.

A truly superb vehicle. Although I seldom take mine off-road these days, nevertheless it's got me out of some sticky situations and as a long-distance cruiser IMO there's no equal.
I had the pleasure to drive one of the first production Rangies too, and after a Series 3A Land Rover it was quite a staggering experience!

When at school a friends dad got the first Range Rover in Bristol.
Compared to the land Rover it was an astonishing vehicle.
Superb on and off road. Great on the motorway and could carry a family and all its crap with ease. Also could tow a boat too.
An amazing vehicle.
When a student in Plymouth i used to take a friends Rangy around dartmoor and the south hams.
Great car.

in 71 drove to LA with car nut high school friends, drooling at exotic Italian cars. We had fits of laughter at a Land Rover with a canopy over it with plaques around it proclaiming things like "longest milage on banana oil 38,478 miles"
They are great but being an urbanite I don't need one.
