BBC Radio 3 in 320k on Uniti?
Posted by: Dinarius on 01 May 2012
The H-Def presets on the Uniti are for 56k. Things have moved on...

Radio Paradise does have a 320k preset on the Uniti. The music is outstanding and, when the DJ talks, it's like he's in the room!
Well?
Thanks.

Well Simon, maybe it's different in Suffolk, but my recent experiences tell me that most 'snail mail' sent to budget troubled organisations is never acknowledged, let alone responded to.
1. Suggest you try the 320K stream from where you live right now. Unblocked during the Proms for US syndication!
2. Also worth noting that there's no longer a separate HD Sound stream for Radio 3. It's all in higher quality now.
Question: Will it require a Uniti firmware change to benefit from this?
Secondly, it's not clear to me if they revert to 53k ex-UK after the Proms.

It looks like the BBC's generosity extends only to the US as there's no difference for me in Central Europe. 56 or 48 is all I can get without resorting to the proxy server.
As a lucky UK resident, does this mean that nobody outside the USA is getting the same 320 kbps HD stream as we get in the UK?
I would think time will make it possible that this should be at least a subscriber service.
In reality this is as I understood it all along, but some do seem to be claiming to have the HD stream outside the UK. Perhaps they think they have it while they are not?
There is some confusion over this, I think!

I can confirm I did get the hi def stream outside the UK up until a few weeks ago. Now it is only working ocasionly.
Anyone, how can I set up the expat sheild on a pc and then get my HDX to talk the PC instead of the internet modem / router? This would be a good solution for this years proms.
No problem paying the BBC for this service in the future.
Thanks
Paul
Just confirming that I'm getting 56k BBC Radio 3 via the Uniti on both the normal stream and the Naim's Choice HDef stream.
What baffles me is why I can get Radio 3 @ 320k via iTunes on my computer at any time, not just during the Proms. Very odd!

It's similar for me with a ND5 but how can you tell when you click on the 320k R3 option in iTunes that it is really giving you this? I can select the higher rate stream with my SB Touch in a number of ways and it plays.......but has actually connected to a lower bit-rate stream. I'm no iTunes expert but I can't see any way for showing the properties of what is actually playing.
Christ,
I think you maybe on to somthing. I am now receiving what is supposed to be tsingle feed. However it is not HD!
the HD feed is so good and this is just not that standard.
I am thinking of putting a PC between the HDX and modem / rooter and running some software on this so that my IP would show up as a UK IP. A complex solution and not what I want but can't think of anyl other solution.

I do this for my ND5 but the UPnP server resides on the PC and I can access internet radio through the UPnP software itself. I'm not sure this approach will work for a HDX as it is a server, isn't it?.
You can get modem routers where you put the proxy address in the settings and all the stuff in the house will access the WWW through the proxy. I haven't tried this though.
