n-Serve iPad App v2.3 out

Posted by: Nick B on 02 May 2012

Anyone else enjoying the latest version of the n-Serve app for iPad (v2.3) ?

I'm liking the new metadata editing in-app rather than the previous method using DTC, but was hoping to be able to edit the extended metadata as well as the basic bits the DTC already let's you do. There's also options for cover art providers in a web search, and it's a lot easier to edit and assign genres through the metadata edit facility.

Good job Naim, after the next n-Stream release (mustn't get greedy !), can we have full metadata editing please ?

Thank you so much Naim's team fir this update ! Even if we don't access all the metas, we can really rename and place everything from the seat and also without a PC !

I am gratefull and appreciate the effort !

GREAT !

Fingers crossed for nStream then...

Oh yes please!

Great sound quality for the streaming gear (see my recent demo write up), but the usability could be greatly improved.

Works slickly, espcially the album art edit/add.

Brilliant ! For those of us who are Apple households, this sidesteps waiting for the Mac version of DTC.

"Tunng" are now safely filed in Folktronica . . . Wilco in AltCountry . . .

Why is the Apple users whine so much?

If you choose to use "non industry standard" software then accept that you will get limited support.

Yes new version is a step forward.

What standard, the PC standard? Pretty sub-standard, if you asked me....

Ah, another Tunng fan ! Doug Graham introduced me to this group via "Jenny Again" at the Salon Son & Image here in Montreal in April, played through the NDS. Mmmm.

Back on topic, as Bruce mentions above, the editing features are very slick. Works well on an iPod Touch and even better on my wife's iPad3. It's her birthday present, but she has agreed to lend it to me to control the UnitiServe .

Well done Naim!

Glad you like it,

My favourite bit is the web search for cover art. Edit album > Change cover > Web search. Quite addictive!

Indeed. I updated all missing album covers last night, and on the iPad it's even more addictive...

All we need now are PDFs of the booklets .

Thanks TJ !

Lots of power from the app. Is it possible to put meta data alterations behind a lock so casual (or devious ) users cannot muck with it? Paranoid much?

Posted on: 04 May 2012 by Klout10

Connon, good question. Every now and then, my kids use the iPad and with the new app it could be possible for them to accidentally change things...

really outstanding update - great features and usability. well done!

Very impressed with the new features and have already used some of them to good efect.

Thank you.

Having used it now I'm very impressed. At first the web search didn't work on my original iPad. But then I looked at the version and it was 4.3.2 or something. Updated it to 5.1 and worked great. I looked for the best quality art I could find of 300 by 300 size and found that the resolution was somewhat reduced after importing it. Pretty sure I opened the real file and wasn't just importing the thumbnail as the app seems to warn about. Can someone at naim verify what compression it applies when importing? My iPad 2 was just stolen from the shop (bastards!) so I will be getting a New iPad with retina display and am hoping for the ability to have relatively high quality art to look at. But sure, it's about the music .. nice work, Naim.

Also the ability to delete an album is there too but the button is down in the left corner. It gives you a second chance to cancel the function before executing but it doesn't seem like the best placement to have it near where the iPad is often held from. Maybe too easy to hit it accidentally? And again, it might be nice to put a pin on the edit button to keep unwanted meta data and art changes from happening.

Agree with the other posters - a significant and worthwhile upgrade that really useful - no more fiddling around with computer/web interface to update artwork and metadata. Spent a happy hour or so last night using my iPad to do some housekeeping and everything worked like a dream.

BTW, what do those random characters mean where the 'Serve is not able to identify an album - is there some master database that we can check? - I have about half a dozen CD's that the kit has not been able to find on t'internet

Hello,

I may have found a small bug in this app.

I cannot get a question mark (?) to appear when editing song titles! Exclamation points are not a problem. every other symbol on the keyboard works.

Strange.

Hi Connon,

I've seen this a couple of years ago when I've purchased my HDX. Even with the DTC I couldn't get a question mark or slash (/) to appear. I've posted a question on this forum and I believe it had something to do with the operating system of the Naim servers. It seems that these cannot handle the question mark in file names or folders...

Michel

That also goes for the colon (: )

Michel

Posted on: 19 May 2012 by connon price

Oh I'm positively at sea without the use of my colon.

But I found the colon to work just fine. not sure if forward slash worked. Will check

Posted on: 20 May 2012 by Klout10

The colon sign still doesn't work, but I can only recall the following Tom Waits album:

Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards
