ND5xs + 555PS into nDAC + XPS2 = NDX + 555PS into nDAC+XPS2?

Hi all,

Please note that I have been reading posts and trying to understand what is better.  Ignoring the NDS for now, I am trying to astertain whether it is the internal power supply that makes the NDX better than the ND5xs.  I am also conscious that when items are sold, one loses out financially.

So is my thread title correct?

Many thanks

NDX has more optical isolation than ND5 XS. Then NDS adds the board isolation design from CD555 from my understanding. So not entirely a PSU issue here. However, the ND5 XS may be a good solution for present DAC owners like me ...

I suspect either of the streamer front ends with the 555PS moved onto the nDAC would be a better proposition. Apart from small differences in board design, casework and PSU design the ND5XS / NDX via their digital ouput should perform near identically when using an external PSU to drive them.

On paper the NDS / 555PS should better all of the above. To be honest  if you are looking at spending to this level for a front end then you really need to take a listen to the Linn Klimax DS/1 too.

PS - apart from going to a dealer . Search out postings by Allen B and Asenna04 who have probably tried out most of the combinations you'be mentioned in the title of your posr

Hi James, following your advice - and others on the forum, I spent this afternoon at my local dealer and heard what the NDX did..... Now, I was impressed, but such listening is incomparable to my own system (or even one's own system), especially when my dealer had components optimised in a room optimised. It sounded detailed and well bodied, but I am unable to ascertain where all that came from (252, 300, B&W804) as my other components do not match. You see, I was hoping to hear the NDS but they did not have that in store, but I was told that Naim are releasing a new set of power supplies. Did you know that??! Total news to me, so I think all the more reason for me to get on the band wagon! Jon
