Cable Lengths

I have an option to have my DVD5 close to the NDAC and use a 'normal' length digital cable for music and then have to run a 3 meter hdmi cable to the TV for picture, or I can have the DVD5 below the TV and then have a 3 meter run of digital cable to the NDAC. So which is going to degrade the signal the least or is there no difference.

3 metres isn't a big distance. Choose the option most convenient.

HDMI is less error prone than S/PDIF.

So, my vote goes for 3m HDMI cable, it's cheap too.

My TV is on a 6 meter HDMI cable and the picture is fine no problem with a decent quality cable.

I would keep the digital audio cable short if you can, just because it will cost less for a decent one like Naim offers if nothing else.

General concesus is the longer run of 3 Meters for the HDMI. When people say a good quality HDMI cable, what are the recomendations ?

'Wireworld' make quite a range of well thought of HDMI cables. That's what I have. Google them or 'Future Shop UK' who are a cable supplier with a large range of variously priced HDMI cables including Wireworld, with guidance on individual quality.

I use Wireworld too.

They make DVI to HDMI cable, no need for an adapter.

I own a Starlight 5 series.

Silver Starlight 5 is said to be better and I couldn't find a DVI-HDMI but it does exist.

You can probably find some new old stock on eBay ...

I use a 5 and 6m HDMI cables to my Plasma screen with no problems.

I have used a 10m without any problems.

I also use a 5m digital optical and 5m digital coax cables to my DAC with no problems what so ever.

Stu.

Thanks for the replies.

Gale401 - what make of optical and coaxial do you use as a matter of interest.
