My Bloody Valentine albums remastered. Properly.

Read the story here. It's a good read even if you're not into MVB as it involves some dodgy record label shenanigans and some technical insight -
I'd like a technical comment about the second quote:-
"The technical reason why remastering is valuable is because, up to around the late 90s, there was this endpoint called zero, and you couldn't get louder than zero. Loveless has a very wide dynamic range-- there's no compression over the overall mixes. Because of that, it's a very quiet record; most of it is about four or five dB below zero while most modern records are about six or seven above zero. That's a huge difference in volume because every three dB is perceived as being twice as loud.
But that's not too important because people should just turn it up if they want to hear Loveless loud. But there's this other side of it, because the processors in CD players and most digital playback systems operate at their best in the top three dB-- the player acts like all the stuff below that level isn't as important, so it won't process it as heavily. "
I too raised my eyebrows at that however whats probably more pertinent is signal to noise ratio of the CD player and pre amp vs the CDP or DAC's ability to process low level information.
The comment he made about the US vinyl reissue confirmed something for me, that the CD was the vinyl master and it is indeed crap.
I have had the remastered set for a week now,, and yes they are louder ,clearer and a little better polished .
Loveless does sound more detailed especially with vocals ,though after 20 years of listening to it on cd i still cant understand the lyrics clearly but that isnt really the point with loveless i dont believe.
Nice packaging as well and i am glad to have the later eps on one disc after ( regretably ) selling my origional vinyl copies a great job all round by Kevin Shieds .
would a few live dates be to much to ask , the last time i saw MBV live i was practically deaf for a week after. worth it though .
