Vinyl stores in South Wales / South West England

Posted by: uem on 11 May 2012

Dear Colleagues,

I’ll be spending some time in South Wales & SW England (Cornwall, Devonshire region ) during my summer holidays.

Who can give me some recommendation for record stores, preferably the good old “Vinyl Variety”  in this area ?  Could also be second hand shops

Many thanks &  best regards

Urs,

They have a very good selection. They were on a roadshow today in Brighton (they travel around to hi-fi dealers and shows). Not sure of your taste but they had loads of lovely high quality pressings with them, Blue Notes 45RPM's etc etc. I could not resist......

There's a new vinyl and cd shop called Retro-Vibe just opening in Barry, South Wales.

Spillers in Cardiff need an honourable mention - if only for being the 'oldest' record shop?

Recently moved to an arcade location and not so much vinyl these days. they have certainly had plenty of notes from me since '78

Thanks, guys , for your help.

While I'm also into classical stuff, my "hunt" will be more for very typical british music, such as Dixie Jazz, "Local" Folkmusic, and of course some of  that  really top class Brass Band music.

this is the type of LPs (and CDs ) I just don't get over here in Switzerland.

If you're going further west into Wales then there is 'Tangled Parrot' and the 2nd hand record shop in the covered market - both in Carmarthen.

Me too, in times gone by. An hour browsing / shopping and a couple of pints of SA in the Old Arcade

Hi Urs,

Stop for a few hours in Bristol, weve got Rise which sell new vinyl and discounted CDs (including folk) and an excellent second hand vinyl shop called Plastic Wax (who also has a few s/h CDs too). Lunch at the brassiere at Bordeaux Quay by the harbour is good too!

Cheers John

Thanks again to all ,

...and if your replies keep coming like this, my travel plans are taking shape along your recommendations for stores & shops and hence ample places to "hear, eat  & drink...!"

best regards

Urs

Another for you Urs, for english folk music stop in Glastonbury, just off the M5 on your way to Bristol. Head for Gothic Image on the high street, walk through the main shop and there is a CD emphorium at the back. Also a second hand vinyl shop at the bottom of town too. Lots of funky places to eat as well.

Cheers John
