Speaker thump on Nait5i AV input

Posted by: wpyee on 13 May 2012

Hello everyone,

No replies on HiFi Corner, hope to get some here.

I just bought a used Nait5i & really like the sound which I prefer over a Nait3 I was using.

However, I am disappointed over the AV input which i had set unity gain & connected with pre-outs of my AV receiver. No matter what I try, a loud thump comes over my speakers when I switch to the AV input. This happens even if my AV receiver is not on. When I googled this problem, I read another nait5i user who had the same problem.

I have since connected my AV receiver via the tuner input & calibrated the levels with Nait5i volume at 12 o'clock, which I had done previously with my Nait3. Now, if I select the AV input there is no thump! Somehow, the thump only occurs when the AV input is connected.

Is this an inherent Nait5i problem?

Btw, I am using CD3 & Spendor 2/3.

Any advise/feedback/comments is much apprciated. Thanks!

Regards

Yee

Interesting.  No such experience with my 112, 202, or 552.

Hi Steven

Thanks for your quick reply.

Noted. Just curious, is it the same for the Naim XS AV bypass input? May upgrade in future.

Hi

When you engage Unity Gain the Nait is effectively at full volume and this is why you get the thump, this is normal

Subject: Speaker Thump on Nait5i AV Input

Hello Naim Audio,

I recently aquired a used Naim Nait5i (Sr. No. 217990) and experienced the following problem.

After connecting the pre-outs from my AV Receiver to the Nait5i AV input and setting unity gain, a loud thump comes over my speakers whenever I switch to the AV input. This happens even when my AV receiver is off. There is no problem switching to the other inputs.

The AV input selection speaker thump only dissapears if the AV input is not connected.

Is this an inherent 5i problem or is my unit faulty?  Hope you can provided some troubleshooting guidance.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Regards

WP Yee
