OSX UnitiServe backup with Time Capsule?

Posted by: AlexWard on 19 May 2012

Hello all,

My UnitiServe sits on my Fraim connected via Ethernet into an Apple Airport Extreme router which sits underneath the Fraim.

I am sure that one user here mentioned using a Time Capsule also to backup the US.

I think it's about time I made a backup of my US - currently about 654 albums on there.

I am guessing it will work but wanted to ask before making the purchase. I need another router anyway (have all Apple wired and wireless networking) so a TC could be the solution.

I believe the naims need samba networking to back up, and certainly the timecapsule used to have an option to turn on smb.

Lots of options out there though, apple routers are in the mix mediocre.

Time Capsule is many things and great if you are just backing up Macs with time machine. To back up the uServe you will need to enable samba and although they will work together in theory TC and samba are not exactly a marriage made in heaven. A decent NAS from synology should work very well or a Windows Home Server (wince) would do the trick. Tog

Yes, maybe its better to buy a NAS.
