HDX Internet Connection Problem

Posted by: GraemeH on 22 May 2012

Virgin Hub into Belkin router and then wired from the router to the HDX but the HDX will not connect to the internet.  The little orange light is flickering at the ethernet connection at the back of the HDX but  nada!

Desktop software does not detect the HDX either......going bonkers!

Anyone care to dive in?

Thanks

Graeme. Can anything else connect to the Internet via the belkin router ? . Is the HDX new or used ( it's network setup may have been changed and may not connect automatically if it's a used one). Did you power on the HDX after connecting the network cable to the router ?

Thanks - the HDX is new and I've never wired anything else Wired from the router to check?  Wireless works fine. I'm trawling the net for solutions but ending up more confused than ever.

I definitely connected up the ethernet before switching on the HDX.....not easy this networking!  G

I'd try connecting something else (laptop ?) to the router to make sure. I take it you are using the belkin to avoid using the router in the superhub and have configured it as such. You say wireless is working - is this via superhub or belkin ?

Yes James, the superturd is in modem only mode.  I'll try a laptop in the morning and report back but it's beginninng to look like a modem configuration issue?

Thanks so much for your time.  G

Plugging in a laptop at the HDX end will prove your network cable is fine and the router is allocating IP addresses. Good luck

As above. Get a laptop on to eliminate the HDX then it's a question of finding out which component is not configured correctly. Modem only mode doesn't sound right but I don't know exactly how your equipment is hooked up so I can't be of much help.

It will be something simple and easy to fix if all the equipment is physically working correctly. Having a laptop on the end of the wire will probably be more useful than the HDX. When you can get a network connection with web access the HDX will click in just fine.

All the best with it.

Hi, I don't know the Virgin hub so this may bea red herring, but is it acting as a DHCP server?  The Belkin router will be too and it's never a great idea to have two DHCP servers on your network.  Just a thought.

As they say in Salisbury 'Bon chance' !

Another thought - when you go into the HDX System status, what's it saying about the network...address mode=dhcp, internet accessibe=True,   DNS=192.168.... gateway=192.168....

So, you have a Belkin plugged into a superhub?

Gluton for punishment or what!

Posted on: 22 May 2012 by GraemeH

Hi folks - Just tried a laptop and no LAN detected, so it's not the HDX.

The Belkin is sending a wireless signal well enough but not wired for some reason.....better not be the flippin cable after all the effort getting it under the floor and routed to the HDX!.

Thanks Roger.  All that seems OK.  G

This is driving me nuts!

Might disconnect the Belkin now and try the (ahem) 'Superhub' wired to the HDX to see if that bypasses the problem and makes a connection.  If it does at least I've discovered where the issue lies however the 'Superhub' has such a dreadful wireless range it wont even allow my ipad to connect in the next room defeating the nserve functionality!....sound of gnashing teeth...G

Well, all I have done is return the 'Superhub' to modem and router function whilst still keeping the Belkin connected.  I then swapped the ethernet out from the Belkin and connected it to the 'superhub' et voila!  Internet connection to HDX and once the IP address was popped into the iPad full functionality.

The Belkin is still providing wireless duties for everything else!

Thanks to all who contributed and thanks to James at TomTom for after-hours support.  G

Glad you got it sorted in the end

Now to the ripping ...

I'm glad to hear that it's come alive. Big fun ahead. All the best with it.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together ?

Rip away...

What a great machine.  Early indications with the nDac/555PS sound promising but I'll give it time before comparing to the CDS3 on here.

A couple of minor niggle still:

My main PC wont find the HDX and the nds app 'pause' function from the iPad is not working.  'play', 'forward' and 'back' are working and the incon changes from play to pause but the track keeps playing.

Works ok with the remote.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I hace a similar problem with pause. seems to work but you often have to press it a number of times.

Interesting....A software glitch perhaps....anyone else?  G

More likely a WiFi signal strength glitch. Operation through the iPad throws up occasional and minor anomalies which usually go away by themselves or when I walk nearer to the hub. Sometimes a hub reboot is needed. 99.9% of the time it's all good with the occasional loss of WiFi connection which resolves in seconds.

Harry - it only seems to happen with the pause icon. Sometimes seems like it is perhaps too sensitive and pauses thenplays before canrift finger.

You are correct  that sometimes do lose wifi signal strength. Glad the system is wired. My daughter has just been recommended to run a multi room system (non naim) fully wireless. Tried to argue against it but what do I know!

Yes, only the 'pause' icon.  Everything else works perfectly.  G
