Transferring CDs to Unitiserve

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 24 May 2012

Been doing this for the last 2 evenings and I'm still at the letter A!!

At this rate it's going to take at least a month!  It's a lot of work...

It took me 3 months to complete. Glad I had the Unitiserve for ripping, the PC would have been a pain.

I found the process of just putting a new cd in without really thinking about it, very easy, just check the server after 8 to 10 minutes and feed it another disk, or when I was in the room when I could hear the disk was ejected.

I think i started out with the 20 to maybe 30 disks I was listening most to at the time, and after that like you started out from A.

It took me about 6 months using mainly XLD on a Mac, but once it is done it is d ,,,,, advise you to make a back-up as you go, just in case. Even if you never use the back-up it is comforting to know it is there. The UnitiServe is an excellent box and it'll be worth it it in the end.

What is more it was quicker than copying all my vinyl to cassette

Think of it as a ritual, similar to cleaning vinyl records one at a time, safe in the knowledge that the end result will be better sound.

Then fire up the nServe app on an iPad (preferably an iPad3) and revel in your new powers to explore and access your record collection.

True, but the UnitiServe sounds better when controlled through the iPad 3

I chose a WHITE iPad 2 after auditioning both a black one and a white one.

Sounds like an upgrade to iPad 3 (white) should be on my Christmas list then... especially if Naim have shipped my NDS by then.

120 discs later and i'm now at D. Think its time for a backup just in case

Skip E.

It's a known fact there are absolutely no good records by artists whose name begins with E.

The letter I isn't a winner either. Unless you count Ian Dury - but that should be under D, surely?

Oh bugger.

Just found Echo & The Bunnymen.

Ignore all previous posts.

Who's Enya BTW Tog? Does she know three chords?

Posted on: 31 May 2012 by Tog
Jon - Everything But the Girl, Eurythmics, Earth Wind and Fire - surely a man of your sophistication has all these and more Es Enya knows lots of chords but most importantly lots of expensive marketing executives Tog

Does the Unitiserve rip while serving other music?

Posted on: 05 October 2013 by Harry

Not forgetting Earth And Fire, the Dutch prog rock band. Although most people have never known them, let alone forgotten them. And there's Electronic - if you like that sort of thing.

iPad size, version and colour make little difference, but if you don't chose the right bespoke leather case you will be missing out.

The HDX-SSD will serve or play happily while ripping. I expect it's the same for everything else.

Thanks Harry.

Yes it can serve and rip at the same time.  And it can serve whilst I'm copying music to its Downloads folder.  If you get a lot of stuff going at the same time the hdd can be taxed, but my NDS buffers quite a bit of data so it's quite immune to momentary lapses.

When I used the uServe as a player into the Naim Dac, it was slightly prone to skipping if I was playing and ripping at the same time, however.  But in this mode it was playing, not serving; no substantial buffer in the Dac I believe.
