Melody Gardot

Posted by: thebigfredc on 01 June 2012

Just been catching up with the present series of Joolz.  Sandwiched between the Plan B and Tom Jones pap I discovered the mesmerising music of Melody Gardot. Beautiful, enchanting sound.

I am emotionally torn: gutted that I have not heard of her before; excited because I will be making a beeline to hmv in the morning to get hold of her Absence album.

Also available in hi-res from Linn for those unable to use hdtracks.

I can't seem to find a download I can access from Canada. Linn is UK-only and HDTracks is US-only. Any suggestions?

I would try to find the way into hdtracks, since we know it can work, I do not know how Linn check user identity, and they may be more serious about it than Hdtracks is. This is against the rules, but it is like the dvd region codes, even the hardware vendors produced machines that could find a way to workaround that limitation.

I wonder why the music industry still wants to make file sharing an attractive option, haven't they learned anything?

Have you tried hdtracks? I am using a .dk mail address. This is an obvious European toplevel domain but that is not the way hdtracks check where you come from. I have given myself an address in the u.s. but I have not even checked if the street and number exists, and hdtracks does not seem to have done so either. I use paypal and as I understand it this is the payment method that works for most people from outside the U.s.

Yep, that worked. Used a completely made-up bogus address in Alaska.

First two albums fantastic, latest album rubbish

Posted on: 21 June 2012 by MangoMonkey

oh, that's what you think. Listen to it a few times and it grows on you. Her best work yet.

Not sure I agree with you Mr Mango, the first two albums were instantly enjoyable and have remained so. This album is dissappointing for me.

Worrisome Heart is currently available from Amazon (UK) for £3.99

I agree with MM. Yes the 1st two albums were more classic jazz with some pop, easier to listen with instant gems (Who Will Comfort me, Worrisome Heart, Our Love is Easy and more). This new one has a latin flavor that will not appeal to all and the songs aren't as accessible at first listen. More complicated, need to be listen to carefully (what is the english word for "apprivoisé?).

Always a question of personal taste but when I first listened to "The Absence", I also was disapointed. But after some time and more listening, I think it is innovative and just different. My favorite is still "My One and Only Thrill" but this ones grows on me and is a great listening.

BTW, I will see her next friday at the Montreal Jazz Festival. All tickets sold since looooong time.
