Podcasts: is the iPod/iPad interface better than naim streamers?

Posted by: Stefan Vogt on 07 June 2012

Dear all,

I am just discovering the BBC iPlayer interface on the iPod touch - it is quite nice to catch up on e.g. science reports! On naim streamers such as qute or ND5XS, there is a more complex hierarchy to work through before I can find BBC 4 programmes (e.g., continent, country, genre, Psychology), but I can get there (faster via nstream).

Now, I would be most grateful for some advice / guidance, in particular:

Are these streaming devices (iPod touch; naim streamers; other streamers) all using the same 'platform', please? Or is one wider / deeper than another? Can there ever be BBC iPlayer on a naim streamer? (I know, it would be nice to have AirPlay).

And why can I pause / fast forward / fast backward on the iPlayer but not on naim streamers? (pausing a program on naim streamers means that I have to start listening from the beginning again...).

Is it really still early streaming days, naim?

Best,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

you can simplify the access to podcasts by using an external podcatcher software (like iTunes or gPodder) which updates and downloads your subscribed podcasts on a regular basis to your upnp music directory.

But I agree with you that podcasts, especially larger ones, are almost unusable without FF/RW function. Naim urgently needs to improve this.

Best,

Oliver
