Come on Greece stuff Poland.

I have nothing against Poland other than they knocked us out of the world cup in the early 70s on a BW tv.

So far yawn yawn .... No forwards For Spain 4 6 0 what a formation ... Italy are just mediocre apart from Super Mario's back flick. Spain must surely improve. Pitch is rubbish so that should be good for us tomorrow. My tip is Ireland to win this group on their way to the final.

For me the greatest moment in the history of football and all brought about by the greatest manager ever: Sir Alf - we played beautiful direct football - goalie, Roy Bailey, kicked out up to Ted Philips, knock down to Ray Crawford 1-0.

I can see why you don't appreciate Italy's style of football. I thought their first half display was outstanding.

I like bit less passing and a few more goals .. Thought the second half was better and Spain should have won, but they brought on the wrong centre forward; the lad from Bilbao would have won them the game. Still , glad you enjoyed it. I hope there are a few more long throws in the remaining games haven't seen one good Rory Delap imitation so far.

Them were the good old days.

Now this is a better game, both teams getting stuck in and having a go ... No tip tap and goals ...

And bring back Tolly Cobbold (good pic Stu)

Reminds me of England's second greatest manager who achieved the second greatest moment in football in 34 years ago.

Apologies Fabio

Every national football team contains players who feign injury and dive. It's just that some national teams are better at it than others.

I suspect Italy won the world cup 4 times because they produced 4 very good teams.

fatcat,

thanks for your kind reply.

Sorry to keep you awake.

Still that was an excellent game between Ireland and Croatia full of incident and excitement - shame the ref didn't give the penalty, as that would have made for an excellent last 15 minutes. Thought Jon Walters and Keith Andrews did really well for Ireland.

We'll see tomorrow if Roy can emulate the spirit of Sir Alf and Sir Bobby,

+1

Fingers crossed the boys will come good.

I have a feeling in my water it will be a good game.

It could just be my dodgy prostate though.

I'm expecting he'll play Baines in front of Cole and Johnson in front of Jones.

Starting the game with insufficient fullbacks would be pure folly.

Sounds good to me - I'd also like to see Jagielka as a sweeper to safeguard Terry and Lescott and then Milner behind Gerrard and Carroll up front - forget all this playing through midfield - get it forward and hold it up for Baines and Jones to bomb forward. Lots of high balls in to box, lots of pressure on the keeper and we can win this one. Lets not get hung up on possession - goals win matches. Here's hoping

I'd like to see Terry ripped apart by France.

Johnson + Jones/Kelly and Cole + Baines makes sense given they are better at attacking than defending. Milner is too slow to justify being wide; not enough pace to get on the end of the pass when breaking, and not quick enough to get back when the opposition counter. England need to get at Mexes and Evra.

Mixed feelings given the BS reasoning from Hodgson and the FA - still, hope the younger players do well.

Cheers,

OW

Hodgsons style ?  I am afraid it is going to be defensive , soak up the pressure and bang hopefull balls to the wings to then cross in to whoever has the energy to get in the box. i am still not convinced carroll is international quality  .

What i would like to see is England playing like spain , possesion football on the ground. total football .  sadly this is  never going to happen until we have the players to do so.

So we should play to our strenghths ,, high tempo attacking footall , closing down , breaking up play as the italians did against spain   i mean come on   its only france after all

TWP,

OC, Young and Welbeck can play on the wing and up front, hopefully they will interchange - a bit of movement and not letting the defenders settle.

Not exactly a big fan of the sport, but I needed a break from work, so I laid on the couch this afternoon just as the 2nd half of the Sweden/Ukraine match started on ESPN...

And I was riveted.  Three goals in ten minutes.  A huge number of chances for Sweden to get the equalizer.  The great camera work...the emotions of the players, the coaches, and the fans...I guess this is the biggest thing to happen in Kiev since what, 1943?

Am shocked to be writing this...but I may actually wind up watching another match or two.

Go Ukraine! (My mother's mother was born there, ok?).
