Come on Greece stuff Poland.

I have nothing against Poland other than they knocked us out of the world cup in the early 70s on a BW tv.

3-2 even better match .... absolutely superb

It's all about getting the ball in the box and scoring goals

It is wonderful to see England not over-passing the ball and having a go

We do need to improve, but the signs are good

Great substitution ... who'd had thought Theo Walcott match winner

(what next Bob Wilson anchor man)

Let's hope we remember the toughest game is the next one.

Congrats to all England fans!  Very entertaining match -- thought it was over when Sweden went up 2-1.  England deserves praise for weathering the storm, settling down and for making a great comeback.

Got home from work too late to see what happened to my Ukraine squad...well, obviously nothing good!

What exactly was Ashley Young's role last night? If we play Carroll should he not be trying to get wide and cross the ball? Milner at least tried.

I'm glad we won, and we improved, but we are still very mediocre (and Sweden fairly grim). Gerrard a good influence and touches of class as ever, a big effort. Carroll looked up for it all the way through but does look like a red card waiting to happen at times.

So Rooney in for Ukraine. Who drops out? Welbeck?

Posted on: 16 June 2012 by JamieWednesday

Carroll will be dropped surely

Rooney and Welbeck are starting a Man U understanding, maybe this factor will reprieve Young too

Walcott put on a very decent 10 minute display but Hodgson is naturally conservative and knows we only need a point but Ukraine need to win, so I wouldn't be surprised if something is done to 'protect' the back four.

But then Spain and Croatia will probably play out a draw and goal diff means Spain will finish top of their group. I bet England would rather meet Croatia in the quarters than Spain so they maybe do want to ensure top spot in the goup over France which means pushing for a decent win...

Bruce Woodhouse,

Young and Cole were poor; defence - Cole going AWOL leaving Young chasing between players, attack - was it Young wide or Cole overlapping? I don't think the pair of them knew.

Welbeck should start - scoring aside; more successful tackling, blocking, passing, creating, and links well with Rooney.

Cheers,

OW

I'm sure Roy won't do it, but why not play Rooney just behind Welbeck and Carroll - and use Millner on the left of midfield, Parker on the right and Gerrard in the middle. We don't need to play through midfield as we can hit Carroll or play over the top to Welbeck. I really hope he doesn't sacrifice Carroll, as I felt it made a big difference to have him in the team.

BTW - how did Greece get through ... they always seem to manage it when you just don't expect it; shame to lose Russia as I thought they were superb in their opening match.

Here is a classic song to cheer up any Russian supporters

I cant make my mind up on what game to watch tonight.

So it looks like two HD screens on the go at the same time for tonights games.

I watched the Ukraine vs. France match on the microwave - great to hear them chanting I'm singing in Ukraine, I'm singing in Ukraine ...

It can get confusing - if Van Der Valk has a shot and Hans Christen Anderson saves it on the other set.

I'm assuming it'll be Denmark and Portugal that go through, but then again Germany or Holland could sneak it ....

Come on Holland.

Get some goals in this game please?

Just stop trying to walk the ball into the back of the net.

And get the lads at the back to do there job and man mark and in the box.

Stu, are you watching the game on Sky or terrestrial? We only get to see one game on free TV, Denmark-Germany.

Got both games here free on Terrestrial Free view ITV1 HD and ITV4 .

I am watching Holland via my Humax HD sat box, as the picture quality is better on my Plasma screen.

Germany via HD Humax Free view box through LCD screen.

You should get a dish and a HD Freesat box for English TV or a HD multi sat box man.

Cheep as chips and easy to set up.

Both will run off a standard Sky dish.

But a 80cm dish with motor will be better for a multi sat box.

Or link your computer up to your tv.

Portugal were much better than Holland .... Ronaldo sure has lost weight since he played for Brazil and he has had his teeth done.

Denmark lost out to a very dodgy referee who must have been the only one who didn't see the pull on Nicklas Bendtner shirt, still I just had a feeling Germany would sneak it - wonder if they'll get by Greece as they are one of those teams apt at sneaking through as well. BTW how come Germany is able to have Polish players - can we have Lionel Messi, as Lionel is an English name?

OK ... so I'm tipping Spain and either Croatia or Italy to go through tomorrow.

Some interesting results so far.  Group A proved to be the real Group of Death (who would have thought Czech Republic and Greece)? While Holland drop out not with a bang but with a whimper.

Germany as usual look like the haven't reached full potential yet but are still doing the business - which is worrying.  Feel a bit sorry for the Danes though.

Can't see the Irish upsetting the Italians and Spain should take care of business against the Croats, so gut feel says Spain and Italy will go through.  Then it's all about the England v Ukraine match in Group D.  Can Woys Wonderful Whites deliver?

Posted on: 18 June 2012 by King Size

Had a chance to watch the Portugal v Holland game a little more closely last night (the games are on when i'm getting ready for work).  The Portuguese were guilty of some shocking simulation (have a look at the period between the 5th and the 6th minute for two blatant back to back cases).

Then there was Ronaldo strutting like a peacock and shouting 'Magnifico' into the camera after scoring his first goal.  He really does give the people who don't like him a fair bit of ammunition to work with...
