HDX internet problem

Posted by: Hutton1969 on 20 June 2012

For no apparent reason, my HDX will not respond to the N Serve app which is unable to find the server.  Also, it will not select any radio stations and the display states there is an internet problem.  I have checked all the connections and they appear fine.  There is an intermittent flashing yellow led where the ethernet plug connects to the rear of the HDX.  The unit was working perfectly until this problem arose.  It still plays music from the internal drive selected from the display screen.

Any suggestions to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start with easy steps like re-booting the HDX and, if this fails, re-booting your router.

If you still have no joy, it may be that the router has assigned a different IP address to the HDX, in which case you'll have to connect n-Serve to the new address.  If this is the problem and it keeps recurring, you may have to give the HDX a static IP address.

I suppose the other possibility is that your NAS has dropped-out of of your network, so try re-booting this.

I'm always amazed that switching-off and switching back on can solve so many problems.  I'm sure it's a deliberate feature designed to humiliate the technically-savvy.  All your clever solutions to the problem fail and then your wife says, why don't you just switch it off and switch it back on again dear?

Radio doesn't play if selected from the screen (or at all!).Currently in process of trying to eliminate all possibilities ans suspect fault with server.

In the process of restarting the HDX, you have also to extinguish the button on the back of the HDX, that will start the sessions of the informatic part of the HDX. Otherwise, the problem can remain.

I had a couple of time the problem with file sharing home and till now i couldn't isolate if the responsible was my computer or the HDX - showing shared folders as "status Off" when on the computer, everything seems to be "On" and right. Restarting with the back button (after usin the front one of course) resolved the problem.

Keep us informed, i think all the HDX owners are intersted to know the "potential" trouble on this machine.

Good luck!

Depending on your setup this sounds like a setting on your router, or your computer firewall preventing the necessary access.

I'm afraid I'm not technically minded enough to help you through this, but I did have similar issues when I first set up my HDX.  I too felt it was an HDX fault but in reality my router/firewall needed some settings adjusted, after which it has worked flawlessly.

Hope you find the issue quickly.
