Squeezebox duet

Can this be used without the remote control?

I understand the remote that comes with the duet may be needed for initial set up, however does the IPend or the logitech official app work as a substitute for the official remote during the set up process?

I have an SB touch for my main naim rig and like it so much I would like to get another one for the bedroom.

However the duet only receiver maybe an option too...?

According to the squeezebox forum, the short answer is - you need the controller. Do a search there for

the 'No controller - how to connect receiver to new network!' thread in the Duet section.

I used to have a Duet but upgraded to the Touch, and now have 2 Touches and a Radio.

I am not sure why anyone would want to use a Duet anymore, unless you could pick one up very very cheaply.

The touch is just so much easier to use, has better SQ,  and versatility/tweakability + 24/192 playback with an easily installed plug in.

A couple of days ago Amazon had a good deal on them - so I am sure some people may have some to flip in the usual secondary markets.

Yes, you can but only if technically minded.

Do a Google search for "95301-No-controller-how-to-connect-receiver-to-new-network" and you'll find a relevant reference very quickly. Post #6 will tell you everything you need to know.

I didn't say it would be easy!

Actually I just discovered Ipeng has playback functionality (in app purchase), turning my iphone into a SB playback machine.

I still would rather have a dedicated SBT on my bedside table, but this seems to be ok for now...
