ND5 XS Choice with Cymbiosis

Posted by: Ramesh on 23 June 2012

First of I would like to thank both members - Julian H & Yippedidou on previous feedback and suggestions on my "Streaming update".

Following two demonstrations by my local dealer Cymbiosis in Leicester, comparing my existing systems CD5X vs NDX vs ND5 XS, it was clear that order of performance

1) NDX,

2) ND5 XS

3} CD5X

However my current budget and "Sound per Pound" have influenced to buy the ND5 XS for the replacement of my CD5X.

My family are currently enjoying the ND5 XS

I would strongly recommend ND5 XS, equally Phil and Wayne at Cymbiosis were excellent!!. Phil also helped me in setting up the NAS by dedicating his time – {bit complex for me !!!)

Overall an excellent product with an excellent customer services!!!

Cool, enjoy!

This is the way it is supposed to be done: get a shortlist (either here or elsewhere) then go and listen and make a choice based on what you hear and your own system and circumstances.
I was very happy with CD5/FC2/Nait5 for a long time because I'd listened further up the chain and decided the increase in sound quality wasn't worth the extra cost for me at that point.

Glad we helped you spend your money and the boys did you proud.

Enjoy Naim streaming. It is brilliant IMO.

Hi Maxi

I have enjoyed the CD5X since 2007 following the replacement of my Sony CD Player, It is a brilliant CD player. I still highly value this player!!!

However  the main reason  I started looking for a streamer is for more convenience way to play variety of songs not from the same CD and utilise the digital technology [may be lazy!!], but it was turned out to  to be that Naim's both streamers are better in comparison to CD5x player for my ears and gave me the option play mixture of songs and albums !!!

Hi Ian, had my ND5 for a month and it really is fantastic, but does adding the XP5 make a difference?

Posted on: 24 June 2012 by IanG
I've only had the XP5 a few days but first impressions are very good. The sound has more weight and clarity. Bass is more solid and individual notes more distinguishable and easy to follow. There seems to be more air around individual instruments. It's the first time Ive added a PSU but I'm very impressed with the effect it has had on an already great bit of kit.

Was afraid you would say something like that

Is it ok to stack them on top of each other do you know?

Posted on: 24 June 2012 by IanG
Sorry :-) Apparently not a good idea to stack them. Separate shelf

These entry-level Naim boxes are really quite special. That's how Naim gets it's customers hooked to Naim products!!!!

'Hooked' indeed. An incurable addiction...??

Should there be warnings given...? Possibly, but it too late for me now - since 1982, no cure in sight - none wanted - can be held in check, by occasional additions.

Ramesh, welcome to the world of CD-less digital streaming! It will change the way you listen to music as it did mine! Try to get hold of a 24/192 file and play the song/album through your ND5XS.
