As another poster has mentioned, Sonos has all these features plus much more and the update procedure with Sonos is light years better than with Naim.

Why do Naim find it so difficult to produce software of an equivalent quality to their hi fi equipment?

Totally agree

There is no doubt that the guys at Naim build great hardware and have the electronic engineering expertise to produce seriously good streamers. However, the competition has caught up and the market will become increasingly commoditized over the next 18 months. Naim can of course retreat to the high ground and defend themselves and their margins using their premium brand identity or their engineering as a sheild.

Yet the control software is a key part of the user experience and no company can be good at everything. Linn understand that long term survival means more than simply selling high end kit to very wealthy people hence their willingness to make sure that their product range is served by a responsive and rapidly developing open source control point.

Completely agree.

The control software is only going to grow increasingly important - and Naim's, while not bad, is lagging. Add the need to do software updates to the streamers via Windows machines and there's a serious hole here.

Two months ago I went to an audio specialist to listen to a Naim SuperNait connected to a pair of Wilson Benesch Vertex speakers. After a few hours listening I returned home having bought the Vertex speakers and... a SuperUniti. I was blown away by the ability to control my entire music collection from my couch (after years and years of selecting and changing compact discs, spending many hours on my knees in front of my cd player). n-Stream is not perfect (far from that), but I'm able to select the album I want and then just listen to the music. And that is all the functionality I need. For me just after two months this major update was there. So I'm happy :-)

Have to agree with underlow........had my Ndx about 5 weeks now, and after a shaky start and much help from James i'm now in hifi heaven, i would alway say that vinyl is the best format....but for convenience streaming music is head and shoulders above the rest

Interesting, so how would you describe the sonic differences between the SN and SU?

Posted on: 27 June 2012 by undertow
I actually could hear sonic differences, but only when an external psu (FlatCap) was attached to the SN. More control and more punch. Without... I didn't hear any differences (although I think there must be, but I couldn't hear them). A SN/SU and the Vertex's are a great combi btw.
