My Ditto and iOmega NAS?

Posted by: Vicca on 05 July 2012

I am experiencing very hard times with Synology NAS DS212, mainly in the area of network settings and/or maybe with hardware failure. Media server works fine, but otherwise, hibernation and awakening problems, mainly related to remote start-up (as to say additional features related to my workstation) are simply killing me.

Has anybody tried the above mentioned NAS solutions in Naim environment (driving ND5XS)?
How does it go with Twonky, other streaming software and maybe with Logitech media Server?

Maybe the ultimate solution would be QNAP. Synology appeared to be rubbish and full of bugs so far.
Any advices would be very appreciable.

Thanks in advance.

Many on here use Synology products very successfully.  To rubbish a product because you are having an issue is somewhat disingenuous...

Network issues will be problems independent of NAS, and I'm sure the settings for Wake On LAN are easy enough to figure?  Perhaps it's operator error?

If there is a genuine hardware problem, see you dealer for advice and either get it changed or refunded.  Then maybe you can comment on the quality of the kit.

The very point of a NAS is that it is on demand storage 24/7

Don't put it to sleep, just run it as it was designed to be ran.

Well, in the matter of fact, when I was thinking about it lately, the same thing came up to me, also.

So, Yesterday I've downloaded the latest DSM4.0, unchecked all the boxes for ports, that were not needed (except for the Surveillance and File station remote access, which are also are to be removed if NAS continue to interfere on a network) and set hibernation time to "none", and the NAS has continued to work flawlessly. So if HDs fail, they're going to be reinstalled and data copied from adequate backups.

Thank you garyi. I mean, it really is designed to work non-stop as you mentioned.

The best
