Nserve 2.3 - edit function not found - help

Posted by: AKD on 06 July 2012

I used this function last month to find about 500 meta data. I tried to use it last night & couldn't use this function - as if it never existed  I've deleted, reboot & reload the nserve. Still no luck. Help!

n-Serve can only edit the metadata of music the server has ripped or thinks it has ripped (i.e. on a NAS configured as a store). Ensure that you are actually trying to edit an album ripped by your server. To see all the albums your server can edit use the Devices > Server view

TJ,

Trust me on this, all my music are ripped with unitiserve (both HD & SSD) - the exceptions are Naim & B&W downloads.

Like I said before, all the edited ones are not showing the edit button anymore & I've randomly checked all my albums.

On Saturday, I ripped 7 albums - they are the only ones with edit button (showing).

The only change to my system is bypassing the netgear switch, both my external NAS & Unitiserve SSD are now directly connected to the router - that can't be the cause?

To me, version 2.3 is all about "edit button" - I was able to to do all the edits that I've put off over the years. It was a dream come true.

Surely, I can not be alone on this issue - may be I am unique afterall (LOL).

Sounds like your store on the UnitiServe is now set as a "share" - repromote it to a store and you should be fine...

Hi
It works as you suggested - by deleting the file control.ini & re-promoting the share to store. The edit button/facility is now available for selection.

Normally, when my NAS goes to sleep & I had to reawaken it - the store drops to share and the albums are not available on nserve. All I have to do is promote it again, but this time around I could still play all my music - so I didn't realise the store had drop to share.

Anyway, I'm trying to prevent the NAS (seagate goflex home) from going to sleep & if I can't - I will buy another NAS.

Unless, you guys have experience of the Seagate Goflex Home. It's a good NAS apart from sleeping off.

Thank you for your support.

I have to say that my experience of the GoFlex Home units when used as a general purpose NAS haven't been that great - perhaps I missed something but it didn't seem possible to set up folders beyond those which were pre-defined or created when a new user was added. This to me limits its flexibility severely.

(As I said, it is possible that I missed something as I only had a brief time with it.)

Similarly the Seagate Blackarmor NASs seem to have issues sometimes holding files open (and therefore blocking further access to them) when they shouldn't. We've had a few instances reported of that which means that the UnitiServe / HDX is effectively locked out of its own store. Done a bit of Googling on the subject and there is a bit of mumuring on the various Seagate forums about it happening for other people when using BlackArmor's too.

Cheers
