Upgrade of uServe to 2tb -- timing?

Posted by: Bart on 13 July 2012

Hi all,  has anyone heard any news recently about the ability to have a 1 tb uServe upgraded to the new 2 tb version?  Especially here in the States.  I am contemplating doing this.  I will of course ask my local dealer too, but often news travels faster via these channels

Cheers!

Best to contact SoundOrg directly (US Distributor) as they'll be the first to know final pricing and availability...

Cheers

Thanks Phil, and I will report back here for the benefit of others.

I was told by Conor @ Sound Organisation that is is not available.  Here is his quote from an email reply.

Thank you for your support of Naim. I am sorry to inform you that there is no hardware update to convert a 1tb to a 2tb UnitiServe.

Which is absolutely ridiculous - or if there is a technical explanation rather worrying. Vortexbox - backup - install new drive - reinstall VB and restore files - job done. Tog

Don't do that, it is a sure way to the factory, with a non warranty job...

There's no technical reason why any of the earlier servers cannot be upgraded to 2Tb units (upgrading a dual drive HDX to 1Tb or 2Tb is more of an issue as it involves a different drive mounting arrangement).

The replacement 2Tb drives are available for ALL servers as far as I am aware and the documentation to allow distributors to do the update should have been sent out so as far as I am aware ANY servers can be updated to 2Tb.

Cheers

I am "on holiday" but I'm here for you guys ...

(However as I am on holiday and teh rest of the factory is closed til next week then some threads will have to wait til I return - I do need a bit of a break sometimes, hope you can understand that.)

Allen, the fact you didn't know you were in an asylum proves your fitness for residence in said asylum...

Phil, switch the device off! Walk away, you can do it...honest...

Frank.

No I can't - while I'm gone you'll all talk about me behind my back and the world will explode!

I had to chuckle last Friday when someone said to me "Are you working next week or are you on holiday?"

"I'm on holiday..."

"OK - no worries - but you'll be on phone and email won't you?" :hehe:

You might of course have that recurring nightmare where you turn on your Uniitiserve and discover it's been running Vortexbox all along ..... Tog

After all, it is possible to update to the 2tb version.  I sent my Userve in two weeks ago and it's arriving back today fully updated.  My 1tb hd, had an annoying sound (always making a gurgling sound), no more of that.  Looking forward to storing all my files on the Serve (that's why I have the hdd version).

PS.  I also recently upgraded from Qute to SU.  The extra power of the SU makes a big difference.  I also can tell the preamp presents a more clear soundstage.

You're just slightly ahead of me.  My 1tb uServe has been with AV Options (here in the States) for ~ 3 weeks, and it's not quite ready yet.

Interesting to me is that AV Options have been really upgrading their ability to service Naim servers -- getting from Naim a lot of the same tools that the factory uses to (re) program the many systems in the servers.  So waiting for the server hasn't been too painful as it will be VERY updated.

I'm in the USA as well and sent mine to Sound Organization.  They were great, in particular, Conor.

I'm 99% sure I know what they did -- they shipped it off to AV Options   AV Options are getting to the point where nothing should have to be shipped back to the UK, which is great for us here.

It's great that the distributor (TSO) is so invested in Naim in the USA.  Us consumers need their support, too.

Actually it was performed in house at TSO, great job Conor!
