If you're using iTunes, get the free 'Remote" app from Apple on your iPad. Does a great job. We also use screen sharing on our laptops.

Thank you very much.

One more question.

When I rip a cd to itunes via ext. cd writer/macmini, am I able to control it via ipad or do I need an extern display?

Thanks again.

In the itunes prefs is settings to automatically import CDs and eject after importing.

You then simply insert CD and when its done it spits it out.

Thank you.

It is possible to connect an Windows Laptop via HDMI to HDMI macmini?

Done but no screen.

Do you have an idea?

Thanks Christian

No.

You need a screen of some type to set up the mini, a tv will do.

Gary, I'm pretty sure Christian wants to know if there's a Windows way of controlling all the functions of his Mac Mini remotely, much like you could use say, a MacBook Pro to control the MM using Apple's Screen Sharing. Any ideas?

Christian, I was wondering this a while ago and googled a couple of things, but haven't tried anything myself.

The question appeared to be can he connct a hdmi lead between mac and pc. No he cannot.

Without a screen being attached to the mini he cannot vnc it either, as it has no screen to control.

In short he needs a screen to initially set up a mac. I feel certain that if he does not have a tv then he probably knowe someone who does.

Or get a 15 inch lcd on ebay, they for for 20 quid or less.

Well, yeah. That's a given.

Once set up though, aren't there ways of controlling everything on the MM remotely with something Windows?

I'm 99% sure screen share works with pc's too.  Seems like the only issue is the initial set up.  Once that's done you can use remote or screen share.   You gotta be able to get a used monitor off e bay or something for $20 that you can plug into MM

Yes macs have a traditional vnc withthe system prefs and can be controled from a pc.

Many thanks all of you.

So I will ask my neighbor for using his HDMI TV to set up my macmini.

Then I will try again to connect my windows laptop via HDMI with the macmini.

Thank you all. Really appreciate!

Now the macmini is set up via an extern display.

Omg, That can not be so difficult, assume that's just me....

Connected a optical toslink cable.

How do I connect a toslink cable to macmini?

Do I have to use  the 3,5 mm to toslink adapter and then in the headphone output?

Thank you again for your help.

Christian

mini toslink to toslink    mini goes into headphone which also contains a digital out

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by Snait39

Thanks!

Done exactly, but no sync with ndac....

Do you have an idea?

How old is your Macmini? Have they always had a digital out or just the newer (Unibody design) versions?

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by Snait39

It is the new version.  Yesterday bought.

Should be plug 'n play. Are you sure iTunes is running and a song playing? Volume not muted, selected the right dig in on the front panel of the nDAC, etc., silly things like that?

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by totemphile

Got the DAC connected to your amp?

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by Snait39

Hi, yes all is right, also a song is playing incl. the amp:-)

Strange

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by garyi

I think on the ndac you can hit an input twice to choose between toslinks etc.

Although the quickest way is to pear down the optical cable, if its red you have output.

I am still not getting your point about connectin laptop to mini with hdmi, its not going to happen.

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by Snait39

Garyi, I have bought an extern display today so set up is done.

Optical cable isn't red :-( so no output.

Maybe some additional settings on the macmini?

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by james n

Plugged into the headphone socket (with toslink built in) not mic socket (look the same) ?

Posted on: 17 July 2012 by Snait39
James, yes use the headphone socket. When I have plugged into headphone socket and look to the other one there is no red light. So no output. Very strange. The optical cable is brandnew so should be ok...

Got it :-) must set up in the sound menu of macmini to optical. Now running. Great! Christian

Good stuff. That would have taken me a bit to find, too. I have always found Macs to be set to optical output as the default when new. I have never had to change it that I can recall.
