Macmini is now running as posted, but the sound signal is way to quite. Have to raise the volume to 10 o'clock to get room volume. With cd player or ipod via usb the same volume is reached by 7/8 o'clock? Any comments? Thanks a lot. Christian

Make sure that all the volume adjustments are set to max on the MacMini in iTunes, Audio etc. and leave them there.

Also make sure iTunes is set to start automatically at reboot. You do this in system pref's, Users, Login items.

Thanks Spartacus, the volume adjustment direct in itunes was not set to high. Silly little things... Christian

It needs to be on max to be line out otherwise the mac has to apply processing to drop the volume.

Snait39, if you have another Mac in the house you can control the Mac Mini using the in built share screen service that comes with the Mac OS. You do this in Finder by selecting your Mac Mini which should be visible in the side bar on the left under "Shared". You then click "Share screen" and you can see what's happening on the Mac Mini. I use this for general management of the Mini like applying updates. It is also useful for updating metadata in iTunes like sorting out missing album art work, split albums, gapless playback...

A good place to get info on setting up iTunes is iLounge.com. Go to the "Articles" section, there are several iTunes tutorials for setting up, managing etc...

Enjoy.

Spartacus, thanks once again for your effort to let me know.

i.lounge seems to be intereting for me as a new mac user.

An add. Mac is not in the house.

At the start of the thread you indicated that you have an iPad. If you go to the App Store and search for something like "vac" there are a number of vac apps to control the Mac Mini from an iPad. I use pocket cloud but it needs a client running on the Mac Mini, I think most of them do.

Some are free. Have a play.

Another neat thing to do if you have an iPad, iPhone or WiFi iPod is to turn on "home sharing" on the Mini. You can then access your music and video from the Mini on the other devices. We use it for viewing videos on the iPad and for listening to music through headphones in other parts of the house.

Spartacus, winkyincanada,

Really appreciate your information.

Great!

All A quick correction when I typed "vac" I meant to type "vnc". This stupid auto correct while you're typing does this sometimes and makes what you are saying come out wrong.

Any Yes I agree Winkyincanada home sharing is great. I use "remote" the free app to control iTunes and the family have fun requesting music using iTunes DJ as well as listening privately. I use AirPort express' in other rooms to give multi room music for non critical listening like parties and when I am wandering around doing jobs. I use an Apple TV to stream video to a big screen and anything I want to share with others from my iPhone or iPad. Like web surfing, movies, You Tube, even games I'm playing can end up on the big screen for all to enjoy. All done via Airplay.

Yes I've been suckered into the whole Apple ecosystem big time but it is very satisfying and so easy.

Oh Snait39, if you are interested in radio you can try this:

I have created a playlist in iTunes called "BBC Radio", you can do this on either the Remote app or the Mac Mini. Then go to Radio in iTunes and add the various BBC radio stations to the playlist I created. I added the BBC stations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Live, 6 Music, 1Xtra etc.

Then when I want to listen to the radio I just play the station from my playlist. Some of the stations have  low and high bit rate versions to choose from. I always chose the highest available for best quality.

You can of course do this with any sort of grouping of stations you are interested in.

Enjoy
