Latitude Report

No nothing to do with circumnavigation, rather the annual  culture festival that takes place in Suffolk. This was my second year and the first time I have camped.

Musical highlights included Richard Hawley who sounded so much like his CDs.

SBTRKT on the other hand were much heavier than their recorded music and seemed to delight in spinning out their intros and endings.

I discovered two new bands, both of whom were playing in the smallish I-Arena tent: the Wooden Shjips (yes with a J) who reminded me of a cross between the Doors and the Stranglers; and the Field  erm three blokes, a keyboard, drum kit and a bass guitar that seemed to come inwhere you would normally expect vocals. Anyway, both bands were bloody good and started with small audiences which grew and grew as their sounded drifted through the forest. Of course, I ordered their CDs on returning home and have been enjoying listenning to them today.

In the Comedy arena, Shapi Koshandri and Andy Maxwell were so so  funny and in the literature tent I saw Proffessor Brian Cox give a talk on what the Higgs particle means to science, followed by a discussion by Pat Nevin and a couple of writers on the state of football in England.

Yes it was muddie  but I saw no trouble, no gangs of pissed up lads. In fact there was agood spread of ages and seemed to cater for families well.
