Unitiqute IP address

Posted by: PG on 08 August 2012

Have been sitting here working listening to some tunes and as often happens my Qute stops.

This time the input initialising warning comes on, and after a long time the screen declares the server cannot be found.

Check everything out and everything is lit up (NAS/switch), I check the home hub, Qute is shown where it should be.

Check the Qute and the IP address has changed. I haven't touched it and it was working fine.

This has happened on a couple of other occassions.

I know the solution is to re input the IP address but does anyone know why this should happen?

Cheers

Ah! I think it may be something to do with an Airport Express I use to connect into the main network, that had lost connection to the hub....

Hi PG

Well how or why it happens is simple really, when your Qute (and anything else for that matter) connects to your network it will receive an IP address issued by your DHCP server, probably your router. The IP address is a lease that will last for a specific time, an hour, 24 hrs a week perhaps, this can be set in many routers.

When the lease expires it will be automatically renewed if the item is connected to the network at the time, or when next it connects. Whilst you may get the same IP address issued as before there is a risk that it will have a new/different address issued, this is what is happening in your case by the sound of it.

The answer is to set a reserved IP address for the Qute in your router, this is the method I prefer as if the router is your DHCP server is makes sense to tell it to always issue the same address to the Qute. Naim refer to the as setting a static IP address for the Qute although slightly different the result is the same.

Hi Peter

The IP address is set and fixed on my router at the top end of the range.

I think it was the AE that lost its IP and so the Qute couldn't connect through.

Sorted now....i think...its playing now anyway....a bit of Kim Wilde!!!

Thanks

Hi Paul

That’s good then. I guess you have now set a reserved address for the AE as well?
