Qnap twony artwork

Posted by: Nickalexander0703 on 08 August 2012

I've recently upgraded the firmware on my qnap and moved to Twonkey 7. There was no problems really (apart from having to update the XML-definition file so that folder view would show the songs in track order).

Anyway - the naim app is now more responsive, art work is really clear and I would definitely recommend upgrading to anyone using a qnap.

Is this a new QPKG or does it come embedded in the latest firmware?

Thank God I stuck with wax cylinders. Much easier. And they still work when there's a power cut.

Have you tried the Ohmygodden external power supply with your wax cylinder player?  For me it really improved the transients on cylinder 3 of "The Wall".

Hi Nick,

I also upgraded firmware but still on Twonky 6.39, the strange thing is that when I ask QpKg to check for updates, it says "no updates available". Where did you download Twonky 7? What does the new version bring in terms of new features or is just the engine updated.

Cheers,

Iver

I did, but I found that the use of electricity compromised the PRaT, particularly on "Young Lust" and "Run Like Hell". I went back to a clockwork motor after a few months.

However, the true musical experience of "The Wall" can only really be heard on the piano roll version - "The Trial" sounds AWESOME. It's very rare though, I regularly scour eBay for it but it only turns up occasionally, and some Japanese bloke always bids squillions for it. One signed by Roger Waters went for $237,436.17 last year.

The other great advantage of cylinders is that you never get artwork problems. The boxes always have a picture  of Edison on them.

Are you sure your piano rolls are 'hole perfect'?  I have had a lot of problems with hanging chads.  Count the number of holes in your copy of The Wall and make sure it comes to CF3769AB hex.

In the words of the blessed Sid: "You wanna put some talcum powder on them."

Not a problem for me, I had my dealer modify my LP12 and it plays piano rolls just sweet. The LP12 with the water-driven "Ridicule" power supply, "Carnt" subchassis and new Blokeofftheinternet "Home-Made Bodge" tonearm means that upsampling to 487/66 is possible, so holes that aren't perfect are no longer a problem, and hanging chads just get scraped off:

Hmmm - impressive.  An original mono punching of "Ace of Spades" on 3gsm tissue paper.  Also - is that a modified Shimano 1020 chain drive?

P.S. - Don't forget the joker.

Right on both counts - well spotted. George sold me the chain drive at a very good price.

Here's the centrepiece of my collection - a hyper-rare limited edition super-deluxe box set of the Beatles mono remasters - all the albums on a three-mile-long roll of 17gsm finest pH-neutral cotton rag paper, all housed in a velvet box. George Martin came out of retirement to hand-punch every hole with a Stanley knife and the collection was mastered at full 487/66 in Abbey Road under the supervision of Macca, Yoko and Ringo:

Are you sure you haven't been ripped off?  Looks to me like an original Bletchley Park intercept of the German "Operation Sealion" invasion plans.  Although I've heard people say they sound similar.

That's actually "Yellow Submarine" you can see there, so I can see why you'd think that.

Once I updated the qnap's firmware to the latest version, the layout of the qkpg page had changed and allowed me to download/install version 7 from there ( without having to download it separately ). Hope this makes sense cheers

Thanks Nick,

Just did the same. Update process onto Twonky 7 works very well using the regular admin console.
