My friend plays his music from iTunes on his computer to a Naim NDX. If he records in WAV format to iTunes his NDX doesn't see the track. With recordings in ALAC or AIFF he has no problem. I am sure its an easy fix???? Can anybody advise?

The answer is simple. WAV is not particuarly good regards tags. So in general each individual programme that rips WAV will have its own method of 'seeing' the file it ripped usually with its own database or 'side car' file relating to the rip.

In short, the WAV itunes ripped it can see, but the NDX will not, and there is no simple fix except dont rip to wav.

Hi Phil, yes iTunes only has limited WAV support and doesn't support any WAV tagging methods ( either the formal standard one - based on EXIF or the un official consumer oriented id3 based one)

So if your friend wants to carry  on using non lossy  files with iTunes he/she best use an Apple format which itunes unsurprisingly fully supports such as AIFF or ALAC.

It is a shame as WAV tagging with some commercial software can be very powerful, but Apple likes to steer  you down it's own path.

If your friend does ever move away from iTunes I strongly recommend he/she look at WAV again.
