I Love This Band.

I have a forum member to thank for getting me into this band six or more years ago.

He does a lot of washing now,so not much time to post.

I have all there albums on CD and two on vinyl.

This has had a lot of play this year according to my Mac's

If you don't have anything by this band?

You should be named and shamed.

One of the bands I have also enjoyed BUT actually their latest album (New Wild Everywhere) is one of my let-downs of the year! Rather drab and uninspired to my ears.

I do like 'Bodies and Minds' and 'Lost Channels' a great deal, although 'Ongiara' also seems to lack a bit of spark.

Anyway, I might check this out, so thanks. In return can I suggest The Pines: Tremolo and especially Dolorean: The Unfazed or You Can't Win. All have a slightly dusty Americana feel that is not a long way off.

Hey Stu, I love them !! I only have three albums of them, and not the one you show on the picture: Legion Sessions. Probably buy it too. By the way, I also believe the quality of the recordings is very good for all 3 albums .... Tx for sharing

Stu, I have to admit that at least I am one of those who should be shamed. Unfortunately my usual places only have the one Bruce does not speak so highly of. However, I shall keep my eyes open and hopefully I can find one of the other recordings since this seems very interesting. Thanks for tip.

Depends what you like but Lost Channels mixes a more uptempo style with the quieter folky acoustic (think Iron and Wine) stuff that predominates on Bodies and Minds-which was recorded in a barn by people who almost certainly have beards. It is nice though.

Thanks for the additional information Bruce. I certainly try to find some of these. It depends on the mood of course but sometimes folky acoustic is exactly what is needed.

Good band, only recently discovered by me.  Astonishingly it was Dev B, during a Folky phase, who put me on to them.  Not a drum and bass track anywhere to be heard... (sorry Dev).

Bruce,

There first self titled  album The Great Lake Swimmers was recorded  In a disused grain silo.

Its what gives it that magic sound.

Somewhere between a quiet My Morning Jacket and Mark Kozelek's recent works, The Great Lake Swimmers debut may also be  Neil Young's best accoustic album since "Harvest Moon"..Guaranteed to give goose bumps."

Bruce,

I do agree with you about the last album.

A bit of a let down for me also this year when it came out.

It has grown over the last few months.

Still lots better than some of the dross thats out there though.
