WAV and embedded art

Hello all,

Whilst wating for my NDX to arrive, I am ripping my CD collection to WAV using DB Poweramp. I use a HP Proliant WHS server with Asset. All appears to be going well but I am currently allowing DB Poweramp to put high quality artwork in both a folder.jpg file, AND embed the art into each WAV file - I see this as a long term "belt and braces" approach.

In many cases, I am using relatively large artwork files around 1000x1000 pixels and up to 1MB in size (logic being this should be worthwhile for display on the latest iPad using n-stream, or whatever display options I may want in the future).

My question is - assuming n-stream looks for the folder.jpg, is there any deleterious effect in also having the art embedded in each WAV file? I am not concerend about storage space so much as creating a higher workload for the NDX to do it's thing.

Sorry if this has been covered but so far I couldn't find a definitive answer.

Mark, no there is no draw back. Justa couple of observations. Early Naim streaming software on the NDX tripped up over large embedded art in WAV but that got fixed a long time ago.

Also embedded art in WAV is not a formal WAV metadata specification and is an unofficial extension. Therefore  not all software will be able to read the art, even if it  fully supports the WAV format.

However because of the IFFstructure all valid software can read the file but ignore those parts it doesn't understand.

Thanks for the reply Simon, that is enough to put me at ease as I go through the ripping process. I must say in the process of deciding where to go streaming-wise, your posts have been extremely helpful!
