cdparanoia modes?

Posted by: {OdS} on 17 August 2012

Hello all,

I'm currently using K3B to rip my CDs. I can choose between 4 modes when setting cdparanoia (0, 1, 2 or 3).  0 is faster and 3 is the slowest of all. However, I can't find any documentation relative to these settings anywhere. One might think that slower means better rips, but with no audible difference, it's not easy to be sure. Any ideas? Thank you!

Anywhere but on a HiFi forum, it would be "easy to be sure".

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Different ripping modes might have to do with hardware compatibility rater than the quality of the rips. Hence the lack of actual audible difference.

If I recall correctly the modes are to do with aggression and the higher numbers are intended for damaged or difficulty to read CDs.

Thank you, Guido. I thought it had to have something to do with this, but how to be sure when so few documentation exists!
