Software updates

Posted by: Andrew Lunn on 23 August 2012

Hi

I have had my uniti for just over 12 months, I have not carried out any software up dates before. now think its time to upgrade. Checked my software and it says version 3.00.00. Reading instruction it advises to down load version 3.13 before carrying out version 3.16, but I have also found version 3.9.
My question is to I have to down load 3.9 before 3.13 and then 3.16.
Many thanks. Andy

Hi Andrew, I was in the same boat as you. I ran the update straight from 3.00 to 3.16, no problems. And I'll take this opportunity to thank everyone at Naim for this update, it's really the best thing ever since sliced bread. PLAYLISTS!

I was at 3.09 and did the 3.13 update and then the 3.16 one. To be honest disconnecting it and setting it up to update both PC and Uniti wired to the same network  it is the biggest step. The update themselves are not of a serious duration.

About an 8 minute process followed by a 5 minute process -  you may have an extra 10 minutes added to this.

I think it  is better be safe than sorry as there is nothing worse than a brick which can happen.

Andrew: When you say you have also found version 3.9, I wonder if you are as confused as me.  I have a SuperUniti and if I go to Settings / Factory Settings / System Settings and then scroll down to Version, it says 3.9.  However, if I look at the N-Stream app and go to Setup, it shows "Streamer Version" as 3.09.  I believe it is the latter that Naim are referring to when they say upgrade to 3.13 and then 3.16.  Why the discrepancy I don't know.  Can anyone explain?

Andrew

Make sure the following does not apply to your Uniti then upgrade from 3.00.00 to 3.13.00.

Statement from Naim:-

“It has come to Naim attention that some units in the field (NaimUniti with BC SW 10198)are failing in the field on update on to 3.13. Do not update any unit with 3.13 if it has10198 on the product. Inform Naim support who will arrange for a replacement boardto be sent to you immediately”

Then apply version 3.16.00 over 3.13.00 and skip 3.09.00

Hope that helps

Hi Thank you for your replays, checking BC SW it reads BC SW 10733. My understanding is to down load version 3.13 and then 3.16. Thanks. Andy

Just for information,

I've upgraded from 3.68 to actual 3.16 step by step (3.68 > 3.9 > 3.13 and finally 3.16)

All works fine...

What version numbering system is this? It looks like you did an upgrade then a downgrade then an upgrade. Unless I have missed something.

I had the same problem when updating my uniti. I could solve the problem by switching from "fixed IP" to "DHCP". Strange, but it worked. Maybe it is worth checking the network settings of your SU. adca

Same issue with my UQ, I unplugged the LAN lead for 30 seconds then re-connected. Waited 2-3 minutes then the upgrade completed.

Hope this helps

Robert, Naim upgrades have (and may still use) broadcast and multicast discovery options to drive the upload of the various modules, one of the reasons why you can't just download an update over the LAN at this time. The PC or Laptop you are upgrading with really needs to be wired to the same network as your SuperUniti via a regular switch so it can re discover it at various stages in the process. Not all consumer wireless methods are sufficiently robust to support this. Its just an idea and an issue I have expierienced previously and please ignore if you are already doing this.

I already do use the wired construction. ( USB )

But it works now, i only have to wait longer and it is updated now.
