Windows IE query....page will only open in HTML format-why?

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 25 August 2012

I've had a quick search online without beign enlightened so maybe someone can help.

Pitchforkmedia is a site I look at several times a week but for the last few weeks it will open open in what I presume is HTML format, in other words just as plaintext with no images. Very odd. Nothing else has changed on my PC and all other pages work perfectly

Any suggestions?

Not sure exactly which site or page you are trying to look at Bruce.

But try a different browser.

I take your point but why change the whole way I browse? The page always worked before (and opens fine on my other compiuters) and all other pages work perfectly too. Presumably some cookie or setting has altered the way IE opens this particular site on this machine. Surely that is fixable?

If it is a problem with just a single site then it is that site that is faulty and not your computer or browser.

Are you running an up to date version of IE?

The site opens fine on my laptop and other PCs I use.

It is pitchforkmedia.com FWIW, so a pretty big  and popular web page.

It did happen couple of times with EBay but corrected when refreshed and has not recurred. My brain tells me it must be something on my PC or a cookie or something that is affecting the loading of that page.

I'll check IE is up to date.
