HDX Shares - Lacie NetworkSpace2

Posted by: 2roomsor1 on 27 August 2012

I have get a replacement for my noisy NAS, the Lacie.  the idea is that this will be in the same room as the Hifi then i do not need to use wifi to get the music.

problem is, i can add it as a share but i can not see the contents, o have removed the old share re booted and removed and added the new rebooted removed both rebooted, removed backup store rebooted added new share rebooted etc etc etc.

In some of the combinations, i have managed to see the tracks of my share, but can not play them????

the previous path of data for my old nas was:

nas to airport express

wifi to airport express in lounge (modem also plugged in here)

hdx plugged into lounge express.

a second reason for the move of nas is that when using hdx upnp to mu qute, the hd tracks under buffer...stop start.  2 wifi jumps.  when the nas down stairs, no problem, just the nas noise!

new nas is pluged straight into the express in the lounge.

any thoughts?

is the lacie networkspace 2 compatible with my hdx?

thanks all

Might be worth checking the IP addresses and ensuring the HDX is looking at the right address for the new network nas drive and not still trying to look at old address

I'd suspect access rights on the shared folder but a bit difficult to say specifically without taking a look ... We've not tried the LaCie Network Space units so I can't say specifically whether they are or aren't "compatible" but any normal NAS should be able to present a SAMBA (SMB or CIFS) share on a network and that's all that we need for our servers - this is very basic NAS functionality.

If you want to email me directly - phil.harris@naimnet.com - I can arrange to log in remotely and take a look at how it is set up if you'd like?

Cheers

Thanks

I am going to make sure that the share is not running in some mac only mode, then reeboot all try again, watch this space

Thanks again Phil

It won't be running in a "Mac only" mode as that would be that it is only being presented under AFP (Apple File Protocol) and not SMB ... the share must be SMB because you can see it.

I suspect some sort of username / password issue as you can see the share but not access it...

I've a Lacie Network Space Max playing very nicely with my HDX.

The NAS is connected to my timecapsule via ethernet as is the HDX.

check on passwords/user names because it certainly can work!.

Good luck

They can work but in this instance 2roomsor1 was wanting to have several shared folders set up on the NAS and it appears that the NetworkSpace units have a single open "public" folder and then allocate a single shared folder for each defined user which is rather limiting.

Have to say that in this respect these units go on my "wouldn't recommend" list because of that limitation along with Seagate GoFlex and NetGear Stora.
