Hanging i-radio connection

Posted by: Minigill on 31 August 2012

Since the upgrade the NDX has be performing resonably happily with the occassional re-boot.

However last night I had 'server not resonding', so resorted to the good ol reliable tv !

Tried again today and after a complete swtich off, router/re-boot, I finally have UPnP back, but iradio is just 'hanging' saying 'Connecting to RP'.  After an age, nstream says 'no station selected', then press play to connect and so the whole cycle starts again.

Anyone else having problems ?

I feel like throwing the NDX out of the window....

Thanks

Gill

I now have no library to select from, just the presets which do not connect.

Anyone else having issues since firmware upgrade?

Is there a way to manually do a re boot to add all the radio library or maybe a factory reset?

Dear Gill,

I don't get this proprietary sort of streaming. It costs the earth and causes [by reports such as yours] many innocent victims much stress when it fails in spite of the cost.

No doubt that your system can be brought back to life, but my advice would be to get a PC or MAC and fix iTunes without modification to it. It is gratis if you have a reasonable sized Hard Drive, it does admirable internet radio, and works, because for Apple it must be bomb proof, or else their whole music distribution system falls over.

You do not have to use iTunes downloads, and I do not have a single one, just CD rips ... Apple have too much to lose if it does not work perfect every time for it to be flaky ...

Hi Gill -

Given you say that the NDX was working well until night before last, it begs the question of what, if anything changed prior to these problems starting?

To begin with, I have not experienced the symptoms you describe with my NDX.  And, based on lack of helpful responses, it would appear that others have not as well.

But let's assume nothing has changed.  Can you tell us about your network? Which router are you using, what type of wiring (and/or wireless) and so on? There has been a lot of discussion about routers and multicast support in other threads, some of which may apply to your situation.  Anyway, with more details, we may be able to suggest some things to try.  Otherwise, a call to Naim support would be a good idea.

Hi Gill,

Sorry to learn of your troubles with the digitals. Can't that computer-whizz bloke you know sort it?

You need to update your profile BTW to include newly acquired goodies!

Good luck.

John.

PS. Get a gramophone. They don't act up.

Hi John

JC is currently assembling my fraim    It's on his list to check!

Hook, yes, rather a lot of changes, however nstream has experienced some no server issues before the 101 changes taking place since the upgrade.

Will sit down tomorrow and try again and look into it, as the system has had a re build today and it will be warming up later hopefully!

Good news. Something simple, but still a worry while wrong.

Glad you got it figured out Gill.

Did your Naim dealer help diagnose what was wrong? Hope so. With as often as nStream and the NDX (or NDS) get blamed for underlying home network problems, I am starting to think that Naim dealers need to take a more active roll with network player installation. Perhaps Naim can develop a suite of certification tests to ensure a home network has adequate bandwidth, handles multicasts correctly, and so on.

One thing's for sure -- when the network upon which it sits is solid, nStream and the NDX are a wonderful way to enjoy music!

+1

but more importantly a certification test for dealers before they are allowed to sell streaming products. There are some very good ones but I have direct experience of Naim dealers that know as much about networking as the average goldfish. These guys are selling Naim streaming products at full retail and are incapable of supporting what they sell. This forum is full of people struggling with issues a dealer should sort out on installation.
