Who's been removing my slug pellets?

Posted by: Steve J on 31 August 2012

With all the wet weather we've been plagued, like everyone else, with massive slugs wreaking havoc munching the plants in the garden. My wife has been putting slug pellets out and said that they were disappearing at a fast rate in one part of the garden. Well, the culprit has been exposed, a vole, pictured below. I've looked on the net and apparently they have a liking for slug pellets because they contain starch and they aren't poisonous to them.

An odd topic I know and perhaps may of you may think I belong in a padded cell along with this thread. But if you've had a similar experience of the disappearing slug pellets, here's a possible explanation.

That's a cute photo, Steve,

funny... my garden has suffered from disappearing voles, mice, and shrews.

I've asked my cats why this maybe but they just smile as they sit there polishing their shot-guns.

Ha ha. Clever animals,  usually Hamsters in disguise, I say. Exterminate!

That was very quick Tony. Very witty. Luckily I have no cats in my garden, they never get past the minefield, so the vole should be safe.

I wouldn't bother with slug pellets Steve, they're pretty ineffectual. I've tried throwing them really hard but they just seem to bounce off the slimy little devils.

Tony,

Have you tried firing them from a pellet gun?

Ahh! I've got a slug gun...

Feed the slugs to my chickens no voles though - my new cat has been bringing 1 -2 mice a day in. Love the way my wife screams everytime the cat does it
