Where to download?
Posted by: Kage on 08 September 2012
I like the selection available on the HD Tracks website, but as it is a US site only I am unable to download. Is there a similar site I can go to?
Thanks
proxy ip address maybe. rumour from usa is that block will be sorted soon.
HD Tracks back in business for non US customers? Interesting, do tell more.

Yes please.. Living in Canada, which is certainly the Hi-Res desert, I can't wait to have access to moooooooore Hi-Res music.
Yip
On hdtracksjust enter a US address and you are accepted, that works for most of us. Maybe you will have to use paypal to pay, right now I cannot remember if I am using credit card or paypal.

us address dont work in uk ,
us address dont work in uk ,
OH Yes they do.
Oh no they don't (unless I've done something wrong).
I've entered a US address and it tells me this when I try and add a album:
'This title is not yet available for download from HDtracks in your territory due to current contract restrictions. We are working hard to soon be able to offer this title and many others in pristine high resolution quality. Please continue to check back for further updates. We apologize for any inconvenience. We look forward to having your business'
Any idea's? I went down the streaming route to take advantage of Hi Res. So far I have only been able to download some of Macca's albums from his website. The rest of my music is cd 16bit copies onto my NAS.
Thanks

HI,
Wich album? until now I have been able to download every album I wanted from hdtracks.
Some of the hdtracks albums are on Linn records, more expensive but at least available.
Are you using a email address that is on a .co.uk domain?
It is not easy to find out how hdtracks decides where people actually live, but it is not by looking at ip addresses otherwise it would not work for any of us.

Apparently, if you use Paypal, you don't need to enter an address, and you can purchase music from them from anywhere.

HD Tracks used to have a loophole where you could download in the UK if you paid with PayPal and didn't specify a delivery address. They closed this earlier this year by using your IP address to work out where you are really located. I believe this was at the request of one particular label, as it only seemed to be effective on certain titles - mainly the good stuff.... No surprise.
You may try qobuz http://www.qobuz.com.
Blue Coast Records, phenomenal recordings by Cookie Marenco! She rocks!

Try highresaudio.com, fast growing site with a lot of high res files.
Many classical rock records have been reissued many times with different mastering, done by different, engineers. In some cases, the various versions sound very different. You can find for example on Steve Hoffmann forum endless discussions about what is the best LA Woman or LZ2 version. The same is true in Jazz with for example the horrible sounding RVG editions of the Blue Note catalogue.
It is quite unfortunate that in many cases when you download music, even for a steep price, you do not know exactly what version you are downloading.
HD Tracks does seem to use IP address matching on a large amount of their content, and as DaveBk says, the stuff I want. I would always urge caution with services that offer you a US IP address as there is a required amount of trust; they are receiving all your traffic including credit cards and paypal passwords. the service provided by 'Identity Cloaker' seems trustworthy and I used it to watch the Olympics on the BBC from France this summer by choosing a UK IP address. Please make your own risk assessment in the full knowledge of how they work. I have had no trouble from them myself. HD Tracks only checks IP address at time of purchase. You would jump back to your local IP address for the download from the Java app.

This may be an anomaly but I bought 10 albums on HD Tracks yesterday and it did not object to my UK IP address once. It may be a good time to try. Albums included Paul Simon Live in New York, 3 Fervent Travellers, A couple of Eva Cassidy, Paul McCartney's 24 bit uncompressed audio Band on the Run, Unlimited 'Paul McCartney', couple of Norah Jones. May be a good time if you have been thwarted in the past.

Interesting - I'll have a play when I get home tonight. Thanks!

If I recall correctly HD Tracks will allow you to busy some albums outside America (if paying via PayPal) but other albums/labels seem to be more restrictive.

Yes, but normally everything that I try and buy is on the restricted list, certainly my last Paul Simon, Norah Jones and Paul McCartney had to be done from the US
New releases flagged on last week's HDTracks newsletter did not block my UK IP. I wonder if this is a coincidence or there has been some easing? Nothing interested me so I went back to a few on my wanted list, to be informed they are still unavailable to me. I'll see if what they send through this week contains a selection of blocked options.
Did we ever decide if it would be proper for someone in the States (like me) to "proxy" purchase for chaps in the UK?
