n-Stream iPad3 alphabetic listing

Posted by: mcsucker on 08 September 2012

When in an alphabetic display (artiste/album) the iPad does not display A thro Z that it does in n-Serve so that navigation becomes guesswork. Deletion of the app and reloading made no difference

Can you browse by artist/album?

Posted on: 09 September 2012 by mcsucker

Yes I can. Swiping works but tapping down the RH side is navigation by trial and error as there is no indication as to which album/artiste starting letter you have chosen, unlike n-Serve which does. The iPad at my dealer, which I know is not an iPad3 is OK on the same software release and is OK

What Upnp do you use ? It might be the sorting settings of for. ex. Assett ?

Seems strange. The last version of Nstream just had dots I know, but when I loaded the latest version I have a functional alphabet list now.

I have new iPad and use playback for UPnP. I have alphabet search on right hand side with new version n-stream so your experience is strange. Try deleting app, switch iPad off, back on then install n-stream again.

I have yet to update (SU still on 3.9 and using Nstream 3.0) but album artist/album has a - z in the left margin. However above this is an all artists option that then uses a series of 26 dots down the right hand margin.  Most other search functions seem to have, for what could be considered the major  headings, have a - z in the left margin.  However using advanced search and then album by artist reverts to dots in the right hand margin.

As an aside is ther an idiots guide to Nstream as I am sure that I am not using it to its full potential?

Tried deleting & re-loading app after re-starting iPad, no difference.

How do I get to "sort settings" - post from IvervdZ and also "advanced search" post from forester?

As you can probably tell I am new to streaming and Naim!

I use assestnas and the advanced search is the last option at the bottom of the opening page when I access Nstream: I assumed that this was the same for all.  However Iver's post suggests that my assumption, based on very little experience, that the format in Nstream is independent of the storage system may well be wrong.  Therefore what you see may depend on what you are using.  It would be useful to know what you are using as others using the same system may be better placed to help.

Hi Mcsucker -

Which network player are you controlling with nNstream, and what is its software level?  I believe the latest version is 3.16, and I recall that this level was required to enable playlists.  Does anyone know whether or not 3.16 is also required to change from the dots to the alphabet?

I am guessing it is, but as I quickly followed the software update by downloading the latest nStream, I can not be sure.

Hi MC,

i am abroad so cannot check my own Assett. I would advizeyou to go into the Asset Ecit mode and see howthe currentsorting settings are set there.

Hi Iver -

Am pretty sre the OP is talking about nStream dots versus letters on the right hand side of the display, and you are talking about the UPnP server setting that controls whether or not an artist or album listing goes to A-Z, or instead goes straight to an "all artists" or "all albums" listing.  The former is a function of the new version of nStream and/or the network player firmware, while the latter (as you correctly describe) is a folder setting under Asset (if you look at the editor, it is one of the lower left check box options below the folder section).

To answer Hook I have a new NDX with a UnitiServe, within the last week, and if I knew how to find its software level I would! Playlists are enabled, if that helps. nStream is 3.13 level

Showing my ignorance, yet again, I do not know what Iver means about checking Asset

Going to Factory Settings on my NDX shows a Version of 3.13.00, is this the software level?

Posted on: 09 September 2012 by Iver van de Zand

@Hook, you are correct Hook. I misunderstood the issue

Yes and I presume you need to be on 3.16

Mcsucker -

If you want to update your firmware to 3.16, you will need a male-to-male, type A-to-type B (mini) USB cable to connect a networked Windows laptop to the NDX's "USB Update Interface" located in the rear of the component.

The instructions to perform the download and run the update process can be found here:

http://www.naimaudio.com/news/...nables-playlists-all

PS - If you follow the instructions, you should have no problem doing this update.  As an alternative, you can ask your Naim dealer to do it for you, and they should be happy to do so at no charge.  This would give you an opportunity to watch it being done, and once you have, I'm sure you will find the process to be very straight forward.  Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks everyone for advice, help and suggestions!

Having an apple system I will let my dealer do the update. I will post again after the update

The update to 3.16, presumably amongst other things, fixed my listing "problem".

Hook's instructions on how to do the update are more up-to-date than those available on the Naim website which still refer to a serial interface.

Thanks everyone
