New iPhone 5. Will you be upgrading?

Posted by: Tony2011 on 12 September 2012

I still use an iPhone 3GS. I never thought Apple had done enough to persuade me to upgrade with the Iphone 4/4S. Now,  the 5th generation has grabbed my attention and I'll definitely be placing an order.

Anyone else tempted to upgrade?

I've had an iPhone 4 for over 2 years and it has been brilliant - camera, PDA, music, contacts, calendar etc.

I did get a 5s but after a few days decided that, while better in many ways, for me it wasn't worth the cost - £110 plus £36/month for 2 years. I returned the phone to Apple. Instead I have moved to a 12 month SIM only contract at £10.50/month. This gives me 300 minutes, unlimited emails and 500mb of mobile Internet. Seems a bargain to me. Next step is to wait til 4s drops in price then buy one and sell off the 4s. New ones are already available for around £400.

I suspect Apple will have to bring out an iPhone 6 in a year or so as, technologically, they are already being overtaken by the likes if the Samsung Galaxy S3. For me Apple still is the one to have but a number of friends have switched to Android recently.

I know lots of people who have switched to Android too. Acid test is whether they stay with it when upgrades are available and they find they can't always upgrade their OS etc. I have given my 4 to my Dad. O2 would have given £145. He offered £130. That enabled me to buy the largest capacity 5 and go down one tariff from £36 to £26. No restriction on calls or texts. Of course there is the cost of being the parental IT Help desk

Mike

Those are significantly cheaper prices than I was offered by my provider - Vodafone.  Is that £170 for a 64gb phone?  What do you get for £26?  Those prices might tempt me to go for a 5 rather than a 4s

No, they were offering it for £400 but the £130 from my Dad reduced that to £270 on a 2 year contract. The £26 offers the same as the £36 I.e. no limit on call time or texts and 1GB of data pcm which I've exceeded 4 times in 4 years, and my phone gets a lot of use.

Mike
Thanks for that. You did well to get the £26 tariff - Vidafone offered me the 16gb free on the usual £37 tariff which means £100 off a 32 or 64gb but they don't seem to ant o reduce the £37 tariff. I'll try Orange and 02
