Do you have windows running in your iMac. The instructions say:

A PC running Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, and incorporating an RS232 port (or USB port - see bottom of page) is required to undertake the update. The NaimUniti to be updated must be switched on, working correctly and connected to the Internet and an RS232 (or USB port) port while the update procedure takes place.

NaimUniti, UnitiQute, NDX

Requires 9 pin to 9 pin RS232 serial cable (or USB to Serial converter - ones with FTDI or Prolific drivers are suggested.

I am pretty sure it is PC only at the moment with Mac support to come. Are you a Bootcamp or Parallels user? Having said that I could not update my NDX to 3.16 with my Macbook Pro retina as it said it needed USB drivers then the drivers did install successfully.

I can run boot camp and windows 7. I've tried linking the iMac to the front of the 'qute by USB cable to no avail. I have also searched for a RS232 / usb converter with no luck so far. I'll try with my Mac book next as the USB are more recent.

You really need USB / RS 232 convereter it will not work without that (for Qute).

The instructions are pretty clear, with a link to the required cable.

Just upgraded my SU firmware to 3.16. I used USB from my laptop to USB mini at SU rear (silly me, I initially thought it went in SU's front USB). Just a word if advice to Naimees opting to do this yourself: your laptop or PC USB might need a driver (USB UART twin bridge) to be installed before you can download the new firmware. Once the SU and PC/laptop is communicating with each other, the rest requires to simply follow the PC/ laptop instructions. I completed everything in something like 20 to 30 minutes.

Thanks chaps for the advice: eventually tracked down the RS232 / USB converter along with appropriate male/female cables. The converter came with drivers and Windows 7 recognised the output port as a Com 3, rather than the Com 1 as advertised with the driver's instructions. The download and upgrading worked a treat and only took 15 minutes once I had sorted the RS232 fitting (had to file off its two screw connectors so that it would seat nicely with the 'qute's RS232 socket).
