Hi Mates,

What is the most reliable/best PC software for converting accurately

I use DB Poweramp, fast and easy with good flexibility about naming and storage location.

Hi Pz -

If you are streaming, another option would be to use a UPnP server that supports FLAC-to-WAV transcoding "on-the-fly".

I am using Illustrate's Asset (same developer as dbpoweramp) and this process works very well.  It allows me to keep my files in FLAC format for ease of tagging.

ATB.

Why would you want to do that?

Dbpoweramp for format conversion and media monkey for management of tags.

One of the devices I stream to is an older Denon AVR that can only play MP3 and WAV files.  Problem solved with server-based transcoding.  No need for permanent file conversion, nor for maintaining a second copy of my FLAC files in one of these other formats.

Some folks say they prefer the sound of WAV over FLAC. The theory is that the network player's processor does not have to do any uncompressing with WAV, so it works easier and generates less noise.  TBH, I cannot hear any difference, but others have said they can.

I figure I am getting the best of both worlds -- FLAC for ease of management, and WAV for best playback sound quality.  Not having to get a new AVR was just a bonus.

DB Poweramp. Gets the job done and gives me as much tagging functionality as I need. I haven't tried anything else because it hit the spot at the first attempt.

XLD or Max work just fine - Rogue Ameoba's Fission will do the trick as well - although if you are stuck on PC you will have to make do with dbpoweramp ( only joking guys).

Why bother moving from a perfectly good codec with exceptional metadata handing to one with all the organizational poise of a drunk circus clown. Yes there are diehard (usually Naim it has to be said ) audiophiles who claim that Wav has a certain something but if you are really worried about SQ use aiff instead.
