Audio Dropout
Posted by: Dustysox on 21 September 2012
Hi,
I recently got "upgraded" to BT Infinity with new style hub.
When playing music it occasionally drops out. This happens both with my NDS & Logitech Transporter. Both apps (Ipeng & N Stream show the music to be playing. If I skip to next track normal service is resumed. Hence problem leading back to Hub. The Transporter uses LMS on a PC & the NDS uses my NAS with Asset on it.
Before throwing Hub into the bin and getting a Draytek etc, I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction as to what is going on? If it's simply a config setting etc on the Hub then fine. If it's not up to the job...then not fine!!!
Please help me!!!

I had same issue. I solved it by installing a switch between the router and all other devices. No problem since

Hi,
Which one did you go for?
Thank you for your help.

Netgear GS range. They are a little more expensive but my dealer advised they were very good as have others on here.

Many thanks.
Which model? I don't understand the different types..managed/unmanaged etc.. All I want is a plug n play type.
Every days a school day!!

You may by now have read the replies to my thread about switches, a bit lower down the list. I haven't got my switches yet. However, at the moment, I have my Vortexbox connected to the gigabit port on the Bt Homehub3, with streaming devices, including the Superuniti, connected to the other ports. I've had no problems as yet.

Unmanaged is all you need for a domestic situation. The netgear GS are unmanaged and therefore plug and play. Just plug in your devices eg NAS, NDS, XBox etc. I have a GS108 and GS105. The last digit just refers to the number of ports. Oh and don't forget to plug your router into it too !

Hi Ian,
Went for the GS108 and all working. No dropout etc. Starnge as in my mind the router has ethernet ports just like a switch and yet this works better?
Suffice to say thank you for your help all working well, and everything seems a tad quicker.

That's good news.
It was explained to me that although the router does have switches they are generally not good quality.
A separate switch does the switching of traffic to the right places whilst the router is then free to just perform its functions.
I agree with you, I've had no dropouts since and everything has speeded up a bit.
