Getting downloads to appear in n-Stream

Posted by: mcsucker on 23 September 2012

Gradually getting to grips with streaming and Naim! The streaming system element of my system is a UnitiServe & NDX/XPS in an Apple network.

I thought I would try a downloaded HD recording and put it in the Download folder on the UnitiServe. Finder shows it being there but does not appear in n-Serve , n-Stream or the Naim beta Desk Top Client for Mac.

Does it take time to be seen or do I have to rescan the server, and if so how to do it bearing in mind I am finding the navigation of Naim apps a little less than intuitive! Or is there something else that I am not doing?

Not a techie so "plain" language answers would be better!!

Yes i experienced this and you have to force a rescan of the nas. This is done via the naim desktop software. Sorry to sound vague ..it's been a while and I don't have my laptop with the desktop client on. But on the selectable menu options on the left hand side of the page I think it's under tools or settings, there is a storage devices option which allows you to rescan an online device.

I assume you have the 2TB version of the Unitiserve as you cannot download to the earlier version. If so, as per  @Name go to Tools>MusicRepositories>Scannable Network Shares. Then ensure the Host is active and then do rescan.

Gerry

I suspect that the Mac version is "different" to the Windows version. After searching I found Music Repositories/Network Shares but no apparent option to Rescan, the NAS and UnitiServe are shown as online.

As an aside is there any practical difference between having the NDX looking at the UnitiServe with the NAS as a straight backup or looking at the NAS to retrieve music?

1. You have to highlight the Share you wish to Rescan.

2. I doubt it, although I prefer to use the Unitiserve as the feed as I have Music stored on more than 1 NAS.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread but have a question.  How do I obtain the Naim beta Desk Top Client for Mac?

Thanks.

You can also force a re-scan from the web-based interface.  The Desktop Client software is not the only way to do it (at least on the UnitiServe and thus I assume on the NDX!).

ps, there is no "Mac" version -- there is no Mac version of the Desktop Client, and the web interface appears and works identical on all os's; it's Flash-based which is why it won't work on the iPhone and iPad.

There is "Mac" desk top client! I was sent the link to the download by Naim Support and is a Beta version.

I'll try from the web

Success. Thanks Gerry & Bart.

It is great that people take time and trouble to look at and offer solutions to questions
