Tag Editor for Macs

Posted by: mcsucker on 04 October 2012

Having put downloads in to the "correct" folder on my UnitiServe I would like to get the cover art into place. I have been told by Support that I need a Tag Editor so does anyone have a suggestion for one that will be easy to use on my iMac?

I use Media Rage which is well named as it is not the easiest to use at first. It looks up your album on Amazon and then saves the artwork with the file, in my case FLACs.

I use one called "Tag."  It's really super-easy to use.

I find it much better to edit the tags and THEN add the folder to the UnitiServe so that the uServe does not have to scan twice.

I use one called "kid3". Seems to do ok.

Tag is for tagging FLAC files and some other more exotic formats. For all sorts of common file formats, from the same developper (sbooth.org) I use Play, which is a player but works well for tagging.

Kid3 works well for me too. It's simple and it's free.

Yes, Tag is not for all formats.  Thanks for that, Maurice!

I've been using a little program called Vox to play .flac files on my Mac.  I was frustrated at not being able to play them (obviously iTunes won't), and Vox has a really small footprint.  I'll check out Play, too.

Can't you just put a jpg of the album in the album's folder?

call it 'folder.jpg'

Eh good point Gary. The original premise is that a tag editor is needed to add album art, which it isn't.  You can simply do what Gary said

Took the cover art from Amazon, moved it to the album folder within the Downloads folder on the UnitiServe. The cover art is NOT visible in the Album or Artist listing but is when the album is selected! I am confused as well as ignorant! I did do a re-scan from the web.

The best I can say is that it can take a (little) while for the artwork to show up in the Album and Artist lists.  Do a 'refresh' from the Settings menu of nServe, and that will help; that usually fixes it.  Also it seems that once I've viewed the art by selecting the album, it thereafter is visible in the Album and Artist lists.

And sometimes I have to re-scan more than once.

Not everything refreshes at once.  A somewhat annoying thing sometimes.

Tag works fine but Picard automates the process rather well and ensures that the tags are accurate - I use Bliss to manage files and artwork.
