Brothers in Arms on Super Bit Mapped CD (Vertigo)

Posted by: Calum F on 14 October 2012

Gents,

On Hi-Fi Corner someone said there is a Super Bit Mapped (= HDCD ?) version of Brothers in Arms available on Vertigo but I cannot see on the usual places, does anyone know more ? Thanks.

It was me, Calum. It's not an HDCD disc, just a re-mastered CD using SBM. I bought mine from an HMV store but you can also get it on-line from HMV. Just do an on-line search and it's the first one that pops up. Product number is 824499-2. Costs £5 (I would put the link in but I think that's against the forum rules). Enjoy!

I prefer the original CD pressings of all the Straits work up to and including BIA.  G

I haven't heard the original CD, Graeme, but question is: can you still get one? Certainly the quality of the BIA tracks from an earlier Love Over Gold CD I have are much, much better on the remastered BIA. MDS

You have to hunt around.  Ebay can be quite good as people sell what they consider 'old' CD's in favour of newer versions.

'Making Movies' was the worst remaster in my view, the others not so bad.  G

Agree about Making Movies, Graeme, which is disappointing compared to BIA. Must confess to never trying ebay. The thought of getting someone else's uncared-for CD puts me off. MDS

Utterly agree with you. If you go on to fleabay look for discs that have an Orange or Blue Fan design on the top layer of the cd. Blue fan discs are more expensive than the Orange design.

Otherwise try and get some of the earliest US pressings as they are vg sounding as well.
